It seems Spidey will be filling in for Wolverine teaching the next generation of mutants. Wolverine is currently dead, but he’ll get better.
A new ongoing will launch and in the first issue Spidey and his X-Team will take on Stegron and Sauron. I know a certain Crawlspacer that will be ecstatic with this news.
ComicBook.com got the exclusive preview text.

Cover by NICK BRADSHAW
Variant Cover by BENGALMeet the Jean Grey Academy’s new guidance counselor: Spider-Man!
• What’s a non-mutant doing at a school for mutants? What secret suspicion has fueled the formation of his
special student class?
• And because you demanded it! Sauron and Stegron the Dinosaur Man! The villain team 65 million years in the
making! You didn’t demand it? Well somebody did.
Will you be picking this up?
Ignoring all else, I’m stoked to see the Stegron/Sauron team-up.
@26,
Well, blame Dan Slott. He’s the reason why the recent Amazing Spider-Man issue are rather bad. Thankfully this mini-series is being wrriten by someone else.
Can’t even fix his own d*** book, and they keep sticking him in everybody else’s…
*sigh*
@23 – Spidey travels through time, meeting a woman and falling in love with her enough for him to propose, gets his heart broken when her memory of their time together has been erased. And … it’s never referenced in any other Spidey book. Unfortunately, par for the course. The majority of mini-series events are never mentioned again. Hobgoblin Lives and Return of the Green Goblin are the two exceptions that come to mind.
@24 – Yes, that would work, but Slott has so much time building up Parker Industries that I can’t see him changing his storylines to diminish it even a tiny bit just so another Spidey book can be created where he’s also a teacher. Surprise me, Slott!
@22
Christos Gage did those issues who was the Avengers Academy writer. I agree, that Peter as a teacher just fits the bill. In fact since he has a PhD now. Peter as Spidey could be explain with him telling everyone: “I’m teaching part time at ESU now that I have my doctorate. So, when he runs out he can use the excuse: “Student needs to meet with me.” “Dean needs to talk to the staff today.” Ect. Valid excuses and hard to for employees to say: “He doesn’t believe in his own company, he keeps running out.” Instead of: “Peter wears too many hats, CEO, teacher, Student Advisor.” “The hats are going to crush him one day.” Look, that’s how to write it.
Maybe this will pick up some of the threads left from that great astonishing spiderman and wolverine team up a few years ago. I really liked that mini series but always felt like the characters didn’t really react differently to one another afterwards.
I enjoyed the JMS and Peter David issues where he was a teacher, I thought it was a logical step in Peter’s career path. Then OMD happened and for some reason Marvel thought going back to being a photographer was the next logical step. Right.
I also enjoyed those 2 ASM issues where he taught at Avengers Academy, because they were well written and had him teaching again, but also because it was a different writer (can’t remember his name) and was a nice change of pace from … was this during Slott’s Big Time run or was it still in the brain trust/web heads era?
But those stories felt like logical story progressions. As I said, with everything that’s going on in ASM with Parker Industries, unless the company is written out of the book, it doesn’t make sense that he would take on this teaching job while still running his company. Of course, why should comics start making sense now?
Prove me wrong, Marvel!
They traded my subscription to cancelled ‘Superior Spider-Man Team Up” for “Scarlet Spider” not for this ….
I think that this book will be a fun read. Just like how everyone hated the idea of Doc Ock being in Spider-man’s body and ending up loving it (well for some that is…). If written and done right, I will definitely be giving this one a try.
@ # 17- lol excellent. I literally laughed out loud
I don’t know what to think about this. 10 years ago I would have been excited but now I think it is more of a cash grab. Not that marvel doesn’t already do enough spidey cash grab already. I will prob pass and just read the review.
@8 – The splash page of the first issue needs to be Kitty saying to the reader “PROFESSOR WOLVERINE IS A JERK!”
@15 – Spider-Man being on every team could lead to some beautiful possibilities. I hope in the coming years Spidey joins the Lady Liberators, the Godzilla Squad, AIM, and the X-Babies.
If Stegron is coming, aren’t the X-Men going to need Elvis or something? I can’t remember who else was on George’s “can beat Stegron” list
I’ll buy this cuz I’m a sucker for any book Spidey’s in, but OMG guys: Spider-Man joins the X-Men. This is happening. . I just, I just. . .I don’t even know what to say. . .I feel like this is something we joked about back when he was joining the New Avengers for the first time and thought that it was absurd for Spider-Man to be on ANY team. Now he will have been on EVERY team. I’m sure that there will be a decent story-reason for him to join, but I just find the thought of this to be groan-worthy.
I’m very excited that Spider-Man is joining the X-MEN. It is about time, even though he’s only teamed-up with them in the past. I would like there to be a few different mutant or non-mutant super-heroes apart of the new X-MEN besides all of the same members, but it is totally cool that Spidey will help train New team members. I will buy, subscribe, and read the book only if Dan Slott isn’t writing the stories period; that guy may be a good writer at times, but he’s been on the Spidey books for long enough.
@#4- Dornwolf- I think that whole argument went out the window the moment Dan Slott turned Peter Parker into Tony Stark/ Bruce Wayne.
I… actually think this is cool. One of the reactions to Logan’s death that I was looking forward to seeing was Spidey’s, especially considering what they’ve been through together and how their relationship has developed, and it looks like this series will finally deal with it in a way. Logan wanting him to be a teacher for the school I could buy, even if it does conflict with Parker Industries, and considering how much fun I thought the Avengers Academy two-parter was, I’m open to seeing Spidey trying to teach Mutants in the Jean Grey school.
Whether I’ll buy the book is another question, but I’ll probably buy the first issue at least to give it a chance.
A Spider-Man/X-Men team-up title? I think I’ll be picking this up.
“Wolverine is currently dead, but he’ll get better.”
Ha haha hahahaha ha ha ha hahahaha ha ha!!!!! 😀
Maybe it is a cash grab, but if it is good who cares? I’m willing to give it a try, I really enjoyed the issues where Spider-man was teaching the students at Avengers Academy.
Meanwhile Deputy Headmistress Kitty Pryde sits in her office and wonders why she wasn’t good enough.
Wow, this is a cash grab if I’ve ever seen one. Marvel creates a new mutant every day of the week, and they can’t think of anyone more suitable to replace Wolverine.
In fairness, nowhere does it say Spider-Man will be successful or happy in this job.
But I’ll give this a try – loved Wolverine & The X-Men under Jason Aaron, can imagine Spidey fitting right into a book with that tone.
It does. But did you expect consistency? Those guys said whatever they wanted to say at the moment, then said the opposite 24 hours later. I hope the new editor doesn’t do that stuff.
Doesn’t this continue to run counter to the whole Spider-man can’t be successful or happy or how being a teacher in any capacity was considered lame
I think this could be really good if it’s done right. Sounds like there will be plenty of humor as well as the conflict/oddity of having Spider-man teaching mutants….I’m in!
The school has plenty of X-Men and adult mutants that can fill the void that Wolverine’s “death” will leave (didn’t he die and go to hell a couple of years ago?), why in the world would they bring in Spider-Man?
(reads article)
So Wolverine asks him to do this before he dies. Hmm, this is sounding familiar … oh yeah, when Johnny Storm “died” and in his will he said “If I die, I want Spidey to be my replacement on the FF.” And that worked out so well.
Unless Peter’s status quo changes in ASM, it makes no sense for him to leave Parker Industries to go be a teacher at the JG school. He’s barely at PI as it is.
Oh well, I guess anything that gets other writers writing Spidey can’t be all bad. Who knows, maybe we’ll eventually find someone that actually understands the character (hey-oh!).
“You didn’t demand it? Well somebody did.” – George, they got your letters!
I see Krang. Is this also a TMNT cross-over?
