Garfield until 2020

imageA senior source at Columbia Pictures has told the Daily Star that “We are looking to tie him [Andrew Garfield] to the role for as many as a further four pictures given the huge success the franchise is enjoying…The part is pretty much his for as long as he chooses.”

The Daily Star is a UK tabloid, and dropped this bombshell midway through their article “Spider-Man couple Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone are in a spin over new LA love nest”

The article also claims that “He is even being offered a box office profit-sharing deal to stay in the Spidey suit for another six years”.

Personally, I am happy with the news as I enjoy Garfield in the role.

  1. Generally I don’t read post on blogs, but I wish to say that this write-up very compelled me to take a look at and do so! Your writing taste has been surprised me. Thank you, quite great post.

  2. Hey, they can finally turn Peter into a teacher. After all, it was Marvel who had problems with Peter growing up, not Sony. Right?

  3. If this is true, I’m going to be really happy. Andrew Garfield playing the role might just be the best thing to happen to Spidey in the past 10 years.

  4. Like Tobey, they’ll keep Garfield around until he asks for too much money.

  5. This just sounds like a huge set up for failure. I love Garfield but he’s gonna be almost his 40’s in 2020 and you can look teens-early twenties for so long. I would say oh sony could just make Pete get married and make his daughter the hero now or use Miles Morales. But they are stubborn and say that they are only using peter so all I can think is they’re gonna have to reboot it or go the clone saga and use Ben Reily since he is technically “Peter”. They can’t go the James Bond route if they ever expect to even come CLOSE to Avengers size box office because not every one will like the new guy making people not want to watch the film and sony will probably rush the film because of their marvel and sony contract on how many years they have to make a spiderman movie so they’ll be no comfortable gap to introduce the new guy and cast.

  6. Happy about Andrew, but sad about the movies……hope GOddard does something good with Sin Six,and they get an action director for ASM4.

  7. I would love to have Andrew for as many movies as we can as Spidey!!!

  8. I got the feeling this was more what Sony wants, than what Garfield has signed on for.

  9. Yeah, the Daily Star is a complete rag. And Garfield has been fairly consistent about being done after ASM3, so I’ll wait for further reports on this.

But no complaints if he does stay – the ASM films aren’t my favourite things, but I enjoy his performance.

  10. Taken with a large grain of salt because it’s the Daily Star. But if the news is correct then I’m happy about Garfield staying.
