Fan petitions Sony for an Amazing Director’s Cut

imageMuhesh Spaleesh, of Mumbai, India, has created a petition on Change.Org to ask Sony for a director’s cut of Amazing Spider-Man 2.

Mr. Spaleesh states that:

“…I think it is important that we can see the directors cut of the film, regardless of how long it is, so we can properly appreciate the huge amount of effort that went into the film. I think as fans, we could really appreciate this!”

He goes on to speculate on what the Director’s Cut could include:

An attack on Oscorp by the Green Goblin
An alternate scene in which a tumultuous scene is portrayed differently
Extended Times Square and Clocktower scenes
Another Peter/Gwen scene.
A scene with Max and his Mother
A possible espionage plotline in regards to Oscorp.
Mary Jane scenes
Norman Osborn “Head Scene”

At present the petition has been signed by over 1,500 supporters.

  1. @15 – I believe it’s been said that Pete was supposed to beat him savagely after Gwen dies. So I assume that was the extra part of the fight that was “too graphic”.

  2. Apparently they filmed alternate endings for the film, one where Harry actually gets so angry he (spoiler) takes Gwen’s head and snaps her neck, another where Harry mocks Spider-Man as he cradles Gwen’s body, and one where Harry fatally stabs Gwen. Also, the Goblin fight was apparently supposed to be much larger, however not only would it make the movie run longer, it was also apparently deemed too graphic for the PG-13 rating. Rumor has it, anyway.

  3. As much as I enjoyed the movie, I don’t think I need to see any of these things other than I might not mind seeing what they had planned for MJ and how Shailene Woodley would have been in the role.

  4. I know it’s referring to the frozen head stinger, but ‘Norman Head Scene’ sounds like something from the parodies George reviews. O.O

  5. @9 – I’d like to see the one of Harry drinking because it would be a nice nod to his addiction problems from the comics. The oscorp stuff sounds kind of cliched and the alternate Gwen death’s just seem tasteless.

  6. “Several scenes involving Dane DeHaan were cut due to the disturbing and intense nature of the scenes. These include: Harry drinking and speeding while the girl he is on a date with begs him to slow down. An extended version of Harry’s transformation into the Green Goblin, including his teeth growing and shattering, and his nails growing into claws. The Green Goblin showing himself to Felicia, who is in the building during the transformation, and sparing her life. In this scene, the Goblin kills Menken, and proceeds to destroy the Oscorp building. The Goblin cutting the web that Gwen is holding on to, which leads to her death. Alternate versions of Gwen’s death also included the Goblin fatally stabbing her, and breaking her neck with his bare hands.”
Saw that in Sevenwebheads Facebook page.

  7. @3 – As far as I can tell it was there to make it seem like things are happening with this parents subplot, when really nothing is, other than to apparently provide minor foreshadowing for the Venom symbiote. The secret train base is probably one of the stupidest things I’ve seen in a Spider-Man movie though and I really hope they just drop this part of the plot in the next film.

  8. @5: I actually like Spider-Man 2.1 better than the theatrical version, despite Jumping Jonah and that overlong scene in the elevator. They added to the fight scenes and gave depth to some of the dialogues which made the movie (for me) much more round. I think I remember that they released 2.1 because the could not get all the visual effects ready for the theatrical release. So to me, it did sound like an actual director’s cut.

As for the ASM2 petition, I doubt that what this guy wants can be referred to as a “director’s cut”. There’s (hopefully) a reason why they removed the ridiculous “Norman’s head” scene. And there is no need for MJ to be in this movie either …

  9. Petition? PETITION?!?! Where do you get off?!?!

Wait for the sales of the standard DVD/BluRay copies to slow to a crawl like everybody else! 😛

  10. Didn’t SM2 come out with a special edition with extra scenes, like the one where Jonah wears the Spider-Man costume?

  11. I just hope they’re all included in the DVD/blu-ray release, unlike any of the Rami films.

  12. @1 – Exactly what I was thinking – “the problem with this movie is that it’s not long enough!” These are the same people that watched the extended editions of the Lord of the Rings and complained it didn’t cover enough of the books.

@2 – The scene at the beginning with the parents on the plane, what was the purpose of that? We didn’t find out any new information; in ASM1 we were told that they died in a crash and that Oscorp had something to do with it. All that clip did was confirm it (no big surprise there) but no other characters in the film found out about it – everyone on the plane died so it wasn’t like one of them showed up in the third act to tell Peter “here’s how your parents really died!” Yes we saw his father transmitting the video that Peter watched on the train, but who cares? If we hadn’t seen his father transmitting it would we really be confused when we saw Peter watching it video in the train?

  13. I’d like to see the Parents subplot removed and all of the interesting scenes from the trailers need to be added back in. In addition to those the cut conversation between Gwen and Aunt May shortly before the climax and the supposed scenes of Electro confronting his family would be things I’d like to see in a directors cut. Just out of pure curiosity I’d like to see the MJ stuff that was filmed, but only as a DVD extra.
Keep cryo head Norman and the Goblin murdering Gwen by snapping her neck with his hands out of all re-cuts though.

  14. From what the reviews I’ve seen, it seems that ASM2 needs more CUTS, not things added.
