This weekend I attended C2E2 in Chicago with my nephews and met up with several Kickstarter projects that successfully had their comics or graphic novels funded. We all had a wonderful conversation about our experiences and seeing our dreams come to life. Late on Saturday night I was taking out my Marvel Comics American Flag Tshirt I have had for almost 15 years. It has become faded and probably was about to head to the rag pile in a couple more months at the rate it was going. My wonderful sister-in-law said I should go get it sign and official retire it.
On Sunday I raced around getting as many signatures as possible I had the shirt signed by: Bob layton, Mark Waid (Daredevil, Hulk), Thrilling Ddventure Hour Cast, Mark Bagely (Ultimate Spider-Man, Hulk), Jim Cheung (Avengers), Bob Layton (Iron Man), Molly Quinn (Castle), Lee Weeks (Daredevil), Mark Morals (Avengers), Mitch Gerads (Punisher) and had that wonderful couple of Jimmy Palmiotti and Amanda Conner (Painkiller Jane, Forager, Daredevil, Harley Quinn) close it out. I got home and just looked at the shirt, I had shared some very wonderful memories with it and I remember back 6 years ago when I put it on for the first time in the late spring after I had finished chapters 2 and 3 of the book. I just thought about why I was writing the book and now as I place the shirt in a closed case to be hung up in my office. I’m using it as a start to how My Life as a Comic Book Reader was created and what it means to me. We are a bit behind and I’m shooting for July for the book’s release if everything stays on track. So, thank you everyone who has supported me and my book during these last couple of months. It wouldn’t be possible without any of you.
