There’s a couple of Spider-Movie tidbits floating about this morning.
First up – can we expect Carnage in the upcoming Venom movie? IGN thinks so and quotes Spider-Man’s producers about it:
Last week it was strongly hinted that Carnage would make an appearance in a future Spider-Man film after The Daily Bugle tumblr ran a story about notorious serial killer Cletus Kasady (AKA Carnage) written by none other than Eddie Brock (AKA Venom).
When IGN asked co-producers Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach about the possibility of Carnage appearing in the announced Venom movie, Arad replied, “What a great idea.”
Furthermore, Tolmach said, “Exactly. The idea of Venom and Carnage… taking it into consideration. Watch out for this Venom movie. We are crazy excited.”
In other Spider-Movie news Dean DeHaan spoke with Entertainment Weekly about playing the HarryGoblin:
Making the physical transformation from Harry to Green Goblin wasn’t easy, but the process did help the actor get into the right mindset: “When you look at yourself in the mirror and you’re in the suit and full-on Goblin makeup? You feel like a badass,” says DeHaan. “I look at myself and think, ‘Hell, yeah, I’m the Green Goblin! Let’s go do this.’”
The EW article also has an interactive “Harry Map” that you can click around on to get more insight from DeHaan about playing the character.

@6 – Whether or not one likes Venom or not, he should have been in his own movie, or at least introduce the symbiote in SM3 and end on a cliffhanger with Brock merging with it, leaving SM4 to be all about Venom. Adding him to SM3 where there was already enough going on (Sandman, Harry as new Goblin) was a mistake. And Sandman would not have been the sole villain, there was also Harry’s story. Adding him to a movie where there was already more than enough story was a mistake; I was much more interested in Sandman and Harry than Venom. Just my opinion.
@6 – Thomas Haden-Church as Sandman was the best thing about SM3 and could have easily carried the film as the sole villain, im my opinion. The black costume was aesthetically lazy and Venom was poorly executed.
Avi was right though – Venom was the good choice for Spider-Man 3 (thematically speaking); Sandman (or Vulture as originally planned too) was not.
Totally agreed with Hornacek on the Goblin- remember Greg Weisman’s version of the story? Sure, we all knew one of the Goblins turned out to be an Osborn, and yet everyone I’ve spoken to who knows the lore was still shocked when they discovered who the Osborn in question was!
Good writing will do that. These films could really do with some Weisman magic.

2) At least they didn’t make Harry Venom…..

1) I don’t know for a fact that Arad was the one who convinced/made Raimi add Venom to SM3, but I’ve heard it so many times it “feels” true. Does anyone have a source on this, or is it just an unconfirmed rumor that’s been repeated so many times people take it as a fact?
2) I thought one of Gwen’s brothers would be the Goblin!
Seriously, I knew that it would be Norman or Harry, but once the initial teasers/trailers started coming out there was talk about the Goblin being in the movie but wait, that 0.5 second clip looked like a younger person, could it be Harry? Would they do that? But why hire Chris Cooper (Breach!!!) if you’re not gonna make him the Goblin? I would have liked going into the theater with that level of unknown. But now we know that it is Harry so that’s one less thing we have to be surprised about when we watch the movie.
As I said, Sony could still surprise us. Right.
3) I was thinking of Buscemi’s role on The Sopranos when I said his name, but I had his character mixed up with Joey Pants, who played a real psycho on that show. I haven’t seen Boardwalk Empire but I still think Buscemi could pull it off, plus he kinda looks like Kasady.
Or Ben Linus.

1) THAT desperate for ideas, huh? And so Venom in SM3 was HIS fault!!!!
2) You would have been shocked that the Goblin was an Osborn?
3) …. my god, that could work!
1. “When IGN asked co-producers Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach about the possibility of Carnage appearing in the announced Venom movie, Arad replied, ‘What a great idea.'”
Oh course Arad would say that. This is the guy that talked Raimi into adding Venom to SM3. “Sam, trust me, kids love Venom, it’ll work.”
2. I really wish they had kept the Goblin’s identity a secret. I mean, there are only 2 Osborns in the movie, and from the brief shots of the Goblin in the trailer it looked like it was not Chris Cooper, but in recent weeks they’ve thrown all mystery out the window by flat-out telling us in articles “Harry is the Goblin” (I suppose they could be keeping something else about the Goblin a secret, but subtlety does not seem to be Sony’s strong point regarding these movies). I wish I had gone into the movie not knowing for sure which one the Goblin would be, because it would have been a surprise to see for myself that it was Harry and not Norman.
3. Ok, let’s cast Cletus Kasady. Buscemi?
