SP2099“Yet Another #1…”

Bleeding Cool has run an update to a story from this weekend which noted that a new Spider-Man related might possibly be coming in May, complete with a J. Scott Campbell variant cover.

Rich Johnston is saying now that’s been confirmed:

Over the weekend, we ran a story about New York’s Midtown Comics listing for a J Scott Campbell variant for a comic described as “CLASSIFIED” scheduled for May.

Well, British store Limited Edition Comix, who share exclusives with Midtown has confirmed its existence and gone a little further. They describe it as,

Details to follow as this is a TOP SECRET Spider-man book and the last of the J Scott Campbell connecting covers from MIDTOWN COMICS in the USA.

Our money is a David/Bianchi Spider-Man 2099 or an All-New Superior Spider-Man…

My money is on the first guess: a new Peter David 2099 title.  But we’ll see!

  1. Whatever it’s titled, it’s got to be Miguel O’Hara. He is stuck in the present, and we’ve only seen him once since issue #19 of Superior Spider-man. I know he makes an appearance in Goblin Nation and helps SpOck fight the new Spider-Slayers, but we don’t know much about what’s going on with him in the present. His own solo title would be the perfect thing

  2. With Nick Lowe being the new editor of the Spider-titles, and his background from a large stable of X-related series, I see the Spider-titles expanding in a big way this year. While Spidey 2099 and “All New Sp-Ock” are possibilities, I wouldn’t rule out relaunches of Spectacular Spider-Man and Web of Spider-Man, either.

  3. I saw that from David earlier but he doesn’t say he’s not doing a book with Miguel – just not a Spidey 2099 book. Technically, a book with Miguel in 616 wouldn’t be a ‘2099’ book per se. In 2099 he’s just Spider-Man. It’s just easier to say Spidey 2099 than ‘Miguel O’Hara, the Spider-Man from 2099.’ So I’m entertaining the possibility of David being coy there. Actually I’m praying he’s just being coy there. 😉

  4. #1: I’d say defalco and spidergirl counts. 🙂

Regarding the book, I’m sure it will be classified until april at the latest. Marvel isn’t too good at keeping secrets. Guess I should get around to reading 2099 one of these days.

  5. I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again…A Peter David written Spider-Man 2099 title is an instant buy from me. Anyone else…not so much.
I loved the entire run of the original series up until Peter David left. It’s hard for me to come up with a character who is so defined by a specific writer.
