NYCC: Yost continues to write Scarlet Spider in New Warriors!

New Warriors 1After the end of Scarlet Spider with #25, it looks like Chris Yost will get to continue his fan-favorite run with the character in a brand new New Warriors book! He’ll be collaborating with his Red Robin art partner, Marcus To. From CBR’s NYCC coverage:

The final announcement of the panel, revealing the project behind the“War” teaser: A new “New Warriors,” coming in February from writer Chris Yost and artist Marcus To. Members include, according to Wacker, Justice, Nova, Speedball, Scarlet Spider and Sun Girl. Amanat says it’s brings together members of various groups in the Marvel Universe — mutants, aliens, clones and more — who have been “deemed a threat” by the High Evolutionary.

Along with the action, Amanat says, it’s about the cast becoming friends and learning to work together. Wacker says the creative team is going for a vibe somewhere between the Wolfman/Perez “Teen Titans” and Brian K. Vaughan’s “Runaways.”

And while she isn’t mentioned in that roster, the green girl on the cover looks to be the hero look used by Scarlet Spider supporting cast member Aracely.

Clone Saga buffs will remember that original Scarlet Spider, Ben Reilly, was a member of the New Warriors in his day as well. They might also wince at the name of the High Evolutionary, remembering the last time he got involved with Miles Warren’s clones in Scarlet Spider Unlimited #1. *buh*

UPDATE: Newsarama.com has an interview with writer Chris Yost about the book. In it, he calls Aracely by name so that is no longer in question (not that it was much of a question to beginwith, I just didn’t want to assume). He suspiciously names everyone except Kaine (just calling him “a clone” when he mentions Scarlet Spider), and Newsarama frustratingly neglected to ask the question.

  1. Didn’t Kaine HATE the whole super hero game? In fact, in issue #9 of Scarlet Spider, he told the Rangers (a Texas super hero group):
“If you think I’m going to join your boy scout troop, you are HIGH. I came down here to get away from people like you.”

So why is he joining the New Warriors?

  2. @ #3

Y’know, you’re right…it might not be Kaine. Depending on the end of Kaine’s series, it could end up being that last MVP clone who is running around wearing an Iron Spidey outfit and calling himself Scarlet Spider. He’s got stronger links with the New Warriors than Kaine does.

But I hope it is Kaine.

  3. I bet Aracely will get Kaine to join. Or he’ll stick around to protect her or something.

  4. AL,
Dead Man’s Hand had a passing reference at the end of the book, but since it did involve Carrion, so yes it did involve something with Jackal.

As for the New Warriors news, I might have to dust off the editorial, and talk about this at length.

  5. Wasn’t ‘Dead Man’s Hand’ the last time the High Evolutionary involved with the clone Saga? Regardless I like that Yost has balls when it comes to the bad bit of this saga

  6. Bleh just posted this to the FB Crawlspace page, assumed I’d got it first.

    Congrats Kev.

Looks like Aracely will also be on the team too. So hopefully here character can continue to develop 🙂

  7. I’m glad Scarlet Spider is still around in some capacity. A Young team makes me think that it won’t be Kaine. But the “Teen Titans and Runaways ” vibe has me interested.

I also just want to give all you guys, the staff of Crawlspace, props for updating the site quickly and giving us Spidey-Fans convention news. Excellent effort and much appreciated …
