THR is reporting that Shailene Woodley has been offered the role of Mary Jane Watson in the upcoming Amazing Spider-Man 2 movie. The report does not say if she’s accepted the role. If you’d like to see her next to Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone watch this clip.

Woodley was recently in the George Clooney movie “The Descendants.” She’s also stared in the ABC Family show “The Secret Life of the American Teenager.” She has her own website here. She is 20 years old and this will make you old. She wasn’t old born yet when Todd McFarlane’s Spider-Man # 1 was released back in 1990.

Then she can be waiting in the wings to pick up the pieces after Gwen dies. I see it like this –
ASM2 – Have some relationship conflict with Peter/Gwen (not related to MJ), continuing the avoidance promised to Capt Stacy. Peter is sad about Gwen and Aunt May sets him up on a blind date (we get the “Face it Tiger scene). MJ has to then outshine Gwen and HAS to win the audience over (this is why they should have cast Emma as MJ and not Gwen. Because it’s a big ask for any actress to outshine Emma Stone). However Peter is still not over Gwen, but becomes friends with MJ. Gwen is jealous, but Peter and Gwen kinda get back together at the end.
ASM3 – The movie starts with Peter and Gwen together, but MJ is around and fun and flirty as ever, her and Gwen are now friends. At the end of the movie the Goblin kills Gwen and we end with the famous scene of MJ closing the door to stay when Peter yells at her to get out. (or this could possibly be the end of 2 if we get the Goblin as the villain, but that might feel rushed).
ASM4 – Peter still dealing with the loss of Gwen slowly begins to appreciate MJ throughout the movie and at the end she is there for him when he really needs her ans she reveals she knows he’s Spider-Man. They kiss at the end.
ASM5 – Peter and MJ get together for real.
ASM6 – Peter and MJ get married.
ASM7 – I live happily ever after 🙂
… so they’re gonna throw us a bone? I thought they were just gonna flip us off and make Gwen the love interest for these movies?
I never saw The Descendants, so unfortunately my only familiarity with her is The Secret Life of the American Teenager.
I think she could pull off Mary Jane. Just depends how Mary Jane is used in the movie, whether it be to cause tension between her, Peter, and Gwen, to be strictly a friend, to take Gwen’s place if they go ASM 121-122, or whatever.
She’s perfect! Very beautiful, fresh faced… she looks like she could be the fun unpredictable girl that MJ was!

I agree Donovan. I don’t know this girl at all, but she’s got to be able to match Emma Stone and that’s a tough thing to do. That’s why I honestly thought we’d see MJ later in the series.
Judging from that clip she’s clearly a good actress. I dunno how well she’d fare against Emma Stne though, and MJ has to be able to do that. Eespecially with her fairly light voice contrasting against Stone’s sultry, raspy, chain-smokery pipes.
She looks the part more than Kirsten Dunst ever did. Never seen her act but I hear The Descendants was good…

She was fantastic in The Descendants… I’d be okay with her as Mary Jane.
