Venom Gets a New Creative Team

Marvel’s “Next Big Thing” hosted a question and answer session with Venom writers Rick Remender and Cullen Bunn as well as editor Tom Brennan. The most interesting news to come out of this was that August’s Venom #22 will be Rick Remender’s final issue. Starting with Venom #23, Cullen Bunn will be writing the title on his own.

Bunn began co-writing Venom with Remender last week with Venom #17. In my review of that issue, I wrote “Bunn can write Venom forever if he keeps getting it this right.” I guess that means I think the title will be in good hands, but I will miss Rick Remender.

Declan Shalvey and Thony Silas will rotate as artists during Bunn’s run. Shalvey will draw Remender’s final issue.

The Q&A session also revealed Remender’s final word on the status of Toxin’s former host Patrick Mulligan and other symbiote-related thoughts by the panel.

Please post a comment sharing your thoughts on the creative changes or any other statements made in the interview.

  1. Does the fact that Toxin’s new host is Eddie Brock (as revealed in Venom #17) make you more pissed or less pissed?

  2. I kinda hate the idea of Flash being Vemom.Enjoyed the twist of Flash loosing his legs but idk about the suit. My faviorite Flash stuff is when they were frienemeys

  3. Good to hear that Bunn is getting props in Marvel. If you dig Bunn on Venom you should be reading Sixth Gun which he writes for Oni Press. It’s easily one of the best comic books being published. Artist is Brian Hurtt and it’s fantastic stuff. Buy Sixth Gun. Your life depends on it. *winky face*

  4. EDIT: Two-Bit, on second thought I’d rather not post it because it might be a spoiler. Scan the interview I liked to and you’ll find out.

  5. I’ve never heard of Bunn. Declan Shalvey has been doing Thunderbolts for a couple of years and is *okay*. Silas’ art looks pretty good, though.

What DID Remender say about Toxin, though?

  6. thnks Rick, Exited to see what Bunn can do with this series, now let’s finish enjoying the Savage 6 arc

  7. Weird, cause before Venom, I’ve never heard any good things about Bunn’s writing. Since he’s apparently doing a good job, though, I’m fine with this.
