Feel free to share your thoughts on where you were on 9/11. Also what did you think of Amazing Spider-Man #36 the issue that worked the terrorist attack into the comic plot.

I was watching in horror from my condo balcony across the river in NJ.
I was in Year 12 in high school – I live in Australia and I didn’t find out until early next morning when my mum woke me up to tell me what had happened and saw it on the news. While I was half asleep, I first thought it was a trailer to a new movie, but then quickly realised that it was the real thing. I remember going to school that morning and the mood being solem and the schoolyard quiet from where there would normally be the loud noises that usually characterise a schoolyard.
@10
What? “There’s a country where white collared terrorists have been murdering people since the 40’s”? That sounds like a plot for a quickly cancelled Vertigo book. What’s that even mean?
It happened on my 56th birthday.
I was at football practice living on ramstien air base in Germany the base went on lockdown and my coach who also was a member of base security told us pracie was canceled and that we were to all go home immediately I grew up on military bases and posts and that day everything changed living in a military setting you feel a sense of security knowing ur surrounded by soldiers whose duty it is to protect but that day it felt like the security was ripped away it was a day when the soldiers wept alongside the common civilian security was taken from a place where security reigned supreme. Every 9/11 I read this issue of spiderman it is my way of remembering.
I was teaching high school in a large district just outside of Seattle. Our staff was ordered by the administration not to talk about what was going on in New York. I believed then, and still believe today, that was one of the most idiotic “orders” I ever received as a teacher. I talked about it anyway that day and still do every year. I think the work Marvel released shortly after the event was incredible, especially that issue of Spider-Man.
I was sleeping on top of a big pile of money with many beautiful ladies.
I was asleep and my mom woke me up and told me to turn on the TV. From the sound of her voice, I knew something was horribly wrong.
I was on the 9th grade as well. While the attacks were going on, I was on the soccer field puking my guts out (because I suck as an athlete). The administration took a TV to the cafeteria so we could watch the coverage as it was going on.
I was in 9th grade at the time it happen and I saw a bit of it on television, and at first I did not understand until I someone told me and my mom explained it to me when I got home. 🙁
I was at work, when a colleague rushed in and told what had happened. First, i thought he was kidding me, then i turned a radio on and listened in disbelief.
After work a drove home way to fast to get in front of a TV. I watched reports the whole night through in german, english and american television and still couldn´t believe it.
The comic was great, (Dr. Doom crying? AA.. what the Heck!) Written and Drawn in one Night by JR jr. (when i remember right) and saying everything tah had to be said.
I was still living in France back then, I Came out of school and into my dad’s car to hear on the radion that a plane hit the WTC i tough it was a small plane till i got back home and son it on tv. I couldn’t believe it was happening.
As for the issue, we were lucky enough in France to get every single SM book realease monthly as a softcover (we were always around 1 year behind in term of stories) but for 9/11 one, i think it came out the month after it was published state side. Very well done and emotionnal. Although i tough back then than seeing vilains killing people on a daily basis morning was a bit strange.
I was watching Live with Regis and Kelly hours before my first day at the U of T at Mississauga when it was interrupted by the first plane that hit the towers. My best friend online was in New York at the time, and I was scared to death because I didn’t know where she was on that island. Her bf told me she was fine and nowhere near the WTC. That day still haunts her and I can’t really blame her. That ASM issues stands out for me because you have to wonder what went through the mind of JRJR as he pencilled the script that JMS wrote in the course of a day. It was definitely Eisner worthy.
My grandmother on my mother’s side came over to have dinner with us, as it was the first year where we could not celebrate my grandfather’s birthday.
I was at my computer and had just opened canoe.ca (Canadian Online News) to see the
full page/screen stating the towers had been attacked.
My mind raced….had the site been hacked? I even briefly wondered if the date was
April 1st (!). But I knew if the story was legitimate, it just HAD to be on television.
And so I walked into the living room and turned on my set… 🙁
I had to hunt for the ASM issue, no LCS at that time and I wasn’t yet ordering online.
I was 10 years old and saw it covered on the news, and I remember I instantly felt very sad for all those people. As for the issue, I have still not read it, but I intend to, when I can find it.
It was nice weather that day. I remember it clearly, that it had all the qualities of a perfect day. I didn’t know about the attack before I visited a friends house to ask him if he wanted to come outside. It ended with me coming inside to see something that I would not have…and at first didn’t think was real. It didn’t help that my friend used the gigantic television they had…which made the detailes all too clear.
I think what hit me the hardest was the people one could see jumping from the towers. It broke my heart. More than that, I really don’t remember.
I was concerned about a country where other people are murdered by white collared terrorists on daily basis (been happening since the late 40s, still happens), and anticipating my upcoming days in high school
I heard it on the car radio on the way to work when it was reported a plane crashed into the first tower. Since the DJ did not clarify the size/type of the plane, but sounded very somber, I figured it could not be a small prop plane by his tone. When I got on the train, that is when I found out about the second plane, and a report about a crash\explosion near the Pentagon and the other passengers knew it was no longer an accident. By the time I got to work, everyone was huddled around the TV in a conference room, that is when the first tower fell and reports about the Pentagon were being confirmed. It was completely surreal, I will never forget it…
As for the issue, I think JMS/JR JR did a fantastic job with the issue. I agree that including Doctor Doom was not necessary, but it does not detract from what they were trying to convey.
First week of 9th grade. Spent all of History class watching the tv. All I wanted to do was go home and find out if my brother, who was in the Marines, was going to fight. He was never stationed anywhere and has since become a Deputy Sheriff in California. My whole family is proud of all those who served.
I was in 7th Grade English class when someone came in and told our teacher.
I really like the vol.2 #36 issue and thought it was very weel handled by JMS, DR. Doom tears or not.
I was asleep. i was supposed to be heading to 8th grade I think but I decided to sleep in and my mom came in the room to watch news coverage cause she didnt have a tv and there i was sleeping. Busted!
I like the issue, but found it hard to believe that Dr. Doom would care at all about what happened
I was 5 and in another country.
I was in the hospital, being diagnosed with diabetes.
I didn’t know about 9-11 until the next year, when my grandpa’s new wife mentioned she had lost family there.
Also, for those who have digital apps or such, DC just released a free 214 page tribute featuring a ton of writers and artists.
I was in 7th grade third hour when our history teacher came in to tell us what happened. We all just kind of went through the rest of the day in a daze.
I was at work.
I thought the issue was very good, very tasteful. Not sure if it was needed. Did all proceeds go to the families? Should have done.
I was in Pre-School at the time. . .but today, it hits me hard.
The issue itself, I have only flipped though it, but it seemed okay.
