i am really excided to see this movie. for three reasos, andrew garfield, emma stone, and mark webb. And throw in the web shooters for reason number 4.
I’m sorry but I did not like Ultimate, not a fan of Bendis at all to be honest. And if this movie is truly based on Ultimate, then it will be the first Spider-Man movie that will make me unhappy to watch. I only hope it fails and is rebooted again to be something more faithful to the character.
And I don’t recall what horrible hipster habits were put on Peter in the Ultimate comic, but I am pretty upset that they have Peter using a Skateboard in this movie.
Peter is socially awkward and a massive science nerd, he would not be skateboarding! PERIOD.
They are trying to make him like most kids today, forgetting that Peter was never supposed to be “most kids” in the era he came out in. He wasn’t a square because of the year, he was a square because that’s who he was. “He’s midtown high’s only professional wall flower”, a “bookworm”. I don’t care what year you set it in, you have to get Peter’s character right.
@Parabolee I’m a mega nerd of the original Spider-Man, and a huge fan of Ultimate Spider-Man, so TA-DAAA, problem solved
I think I’ll see someone saying “Roles reversed, again”
@16 – Actually, it’s the friend from Social Network.
Garfield is a good actor. Too bad he made a bad career move when he agreed to this role.
I still think of a Basketball when I see his suit up close. So I couldn’t help but make this picture… I’m no good at Photoshop… so I used MS Paint 🙂

I see, thanks.
@Parabolee: It’s because you’re tying to post multiple links. The system interprets that as Spam and snipes the comments. (I can’t approve your posts at my authorship level, so you’ll have to wait for Brad to do it.)
Wait I think it’s because I shortened the links. Trying again…
That depends what you mean by “kill him”. In my case I mean redefine his core elements so far from what made him what I love that I no longer love him.
Neither the musical or Spidey 3 really messes with those core elements like the reboot or BND.
Once again wil the real Spider-Man please stand up.

My posts are being blocked and “awaiting moderation” for some reason now? 🙁
@Parabolee – I don’t know, man. I really doubt one movie can kill Spider-Man.
The musical didn’t kill him.
The live action TV show didn’t kill him.
Spider-Man 3 didn’t kill him.
BND didn’t kill him.
I’m sure if he can survive of all of that, he might survive this, assuming that it sucks (which no one knows for certain until the stupid thing comes out).
@AbdulAziz
So Gwen does know he’s Spidey. It really get’s worse and worse. Like it wasn’t bad enough that they took the marriage away in 616, now we have this movie crapping on the classic characters too.
If what you say about Webb being a big fan of Ultimate is true (which means to me he’s NOT a big fan of the real Spider-Man), well that SUCKS, so it is more inspired by the Ultimate comics. Comics which I dislike, and just take a dump on the original characters and continuity. Rather dumb of Marvel to kill Ultimate Spidey off right before the movie’s hype starts. Not that I’m complaining, if there was a chance this movie might have helped Ultimate ger more of a stranglehold over peoples perceptions of who Spidey is, then I’m glad Peter’s dead in that comic.
Sorry, but this movie is depressing me so much, like I said I’m already down about the whole BND mess and Carlie Cooper relationship. They are killing the character I love.
Oh, Webb mentioned before the movie started shooting that he’s a huge fan of Ultimate Spider-Man
Lets be honest, they always say” being faithful to the comics” as a way to garner faith in the director or screenwriter, actors or whoever. But the only way is to see the movie and see if it lives up to their talk. Saying theyre doing ultimate is some attempt to say that there is innovation going on and a reason to go see the reboot as there is potential for more stories, not just the same old ones that would be similar to raimi’s. Again, we don’t know that’s true until we can see the movie.
Well, if you look at the bottom of the pic with Gwen nursing Peter’s injuries, he’s still in his Spidey pants
@21 Nat –
Because as far as I am aware nobody involved with the production has even mention that awful (IMO) rendition of Spider-Man. They keep saying how faithful it’s going to be to the ORIGINAL comic. So unless you show me where anyone involved in the move has mentioned Ultimate Spider-Man, I am going to have to say that they are not claiming any connection with that version.
Quoting Steven Kloves (the script writer) –
“If you wanna do the Peter Parker I knew as a kid reading the comic book, I can do that”
I’m sorry but I read 80 issues of Ultimate and I dropped it because I never once bought Peter as the same Peter I read in Amazing Spider-Man.
Also pretty bad idea for Marvel to kill Spider-Man in the comic a movie is being based on right before it’s released.
I see they’re still hiding in the shadows…
Parabolee:
I think you forget that in Ultimate Spidey Gwen eventually learns that Peter is Spider-Man….why does everyone forgetting this movie is based on ultimate spidey?
@Parabolee
Dude calm down, we haven’t even seen a trailer yet! 🙂

Costume continues to look awful, especially the webbing under his mouth. And what is going on with the boots and gloves? Ugh. But enough about that for now…
I’m now concerned with the pic of Gwen nursing Pete’s injuries. Are they going to have her know he’s Spidey? That would be a bad choice, very out of character for Gwen. Heard Webb and the other scriptwriter (the one that wrote the Potter Screenplays) talk about how faithful they are trying to be, but the more I see, the less faithful it looks.
Aunt May looks far too young, Gwen possibly knowing Pete’s Spidey, the silly looking costume, Pete’s silly looking hair, and hipster clothes. I’m starting to feel sick again…
The only part I don’t care for with the costume is the gloves….but oh well, it is not that big of a deal, overall the costume looks pretty good…hopefully nit-picking over how the costume looks ends up being the biggest problem for this movie, cause that should mean it turns out pretty good. Also, Emma looks great as Gwen, I’m so glad they cast her (I’m like in love with her)!
@-_-
Stupid sexy Flanders.
Also, I will cast no judgment until I see the movie. I don’t mind the costume, and I consider myself a Spider-Man fan.
I showed the pic to my mom and she asked if that was the Twilight kid. Ugh.
Well have to see it in action. Garfield’s slim figure makes it appear more ‘revealing’ than tobey’s but garfield gets the leaner and skinny muscle look that spiderman is supposed to have. Tobey was shorter but his body made his figure look stream lined and simple which was nice, but he was obviously chunkier than garfield. Now the image make me think of ned flanders skiing downhill… “It feels like nothing at, nothing at al, nothing at all”
Kidding. I think it looks nice.
I agree more witty dialogue in one a the few areas the Raimi movies could have been improved. And I do like Andrew garfield as Peter (though I don’t like the hair). And while I’m a BIG fan of Emma Stone, I don’t really care for Gwen Stacy, never liked her character in the comics, she was always either being self important and needing to be the center of attention, or being a needy whiney daddy’s girl.
MJ’s my girl, and Emma Stone plays the spunky red head so well that it’s a crime she’s being wasted on Gwen. And we all know things don’t work out with Gwen, the Goblin kills her, it’s the most interesting thing about her character. She’s destined to die, and I doubt they have the curage to do that in the movies, so what are we going to do? Have 3 movies with Gwen even though real fans see her as a past romantic interest and not Pete’s star crossed lover?
I remain hopeful for the movie, but even if it’s good I think the costume and lack of MJ is going to spoil my enjoyment. Oh well, looking forward to the trailer (kind of anyway).
Yeah, that no belt thing is really bugging me… the costume is pretty ‘meh’ in my opinion right now but if they can pull through with some witty, in-fighting dialogue from Spidey (something severally lacking from the Raimi trilogy), some nice Peter/Gwen moments and some cool fight scenes I’m willing to overlook it. Here’s hoping the trailer next week blows us all away.
Here you go folks. A much better scan of the EW cover. And suprise, suprise, now we can see it better, the costume looks AWEFUL! (IMO of course, although I am shocked every time I hear a Spidey fan defend it).
Seems the scan above is over saturated and makes the colours look much better than they actualy are, it also hides the filth. We can also see how bad the non-belt is here too.

@ 10 Sam.
Are you kidding me? It’s not even in the same universe as the Raimi costume. The Raimi costume was 99% faithful to the actual Spidey costume, with only the redesigned spider on his back and the raised reflective webbing.
This thing is quite honestly insulting to Spider-Man fans. I have to presume you are going solely on the deceptive picture from the cover of EW, where it admittedly looks good but is not accurate to every other picture we have seen and hides the bad design elements. Did you see the new pic of the mask I posted?
I like it. I didn’t think I would, but it’s much, MUCH better than the Raimi Spidey costume.
Really sorry for third post in a row, but I now realise I cursed in my first post. I am sincerely sorry, my emotions got the best of me.
(sorry for the double post)
Also we can SEE his real eyes through the eyes!!!!!! And notice how a line of webbing comes from the center into the eye, and does not appear again at the other side? It’s like a child designed it. And why does it curve up and under his eye, it just looks VERY bad.
@6 Brian Bradley
Well I have more bad news for you I’m afraid. It looks even worse than these pics. New pic here –
http://cache.gawkerassets.com/assets/images/8/2011/07/amazing-spider-man-costume-close-up-570×747.jpg
OK am I over reacting here? It’s a major screw up!
It looks flithy, why is it so fucking filthy? Do they think dirt = realism? It looks like a basketball! And the webbing design it terrible. Oh dear, I feel sick.
@5 Parabolee… those eyes are bothersome
My main complaint with this new movie is how awful the costume is. But it looks quite good in these pics, but I fear they are deceptive. For a start in other pictures the costume looks much grimier and dirty, in these the colours are bright and very nice looking. Also these pics hide the worst offenders in the design, namely the silly gloves, lack of solid red down the side of his arms (making side views of Spidey look all wrong), lack of front belt red and the terrible track suit lines down his legs. Also the spider on his back is far too thin.
Also, the worst pictures are not included here. Take a look here –
http://www.superherohype.com/news/articles/167839-new-lo-res-spider-man-photos-from-ew
See how horrible the mask looks, it’s all wrong. The eyes are shaped badly, the webbing looks warped and the gold reflective surface of the eyes makes it look more like the Iron-Spider suit we all hated. Also it looks like rubber, and impossible to breath in.
Take a look at the last pic of the whole outfit with Spidey in a pose. It’s so close and yet so far away, it just looks weird and plain wrong.
On the plus side though, I think Andrew Garfield looks good as Peter and Emma Stone is an adorable Gwen Stacy (even though she was born to play MJ).
Looks alright, nice colors like Donovan said. Still want to see this suit in action though. Does anybody know what sort of fabric his suit is supposed to be made out in the comics? Why can’t they make it look more cloth-y instead of like a skin-tight spandex
I don’t like how they messed with the lines, specifically, the red parts of the costume!
Like the colors.
From what I can see in the pictures, it looks okay. I need to see a trailer though.
