@Two-Bit… I think adapting stuff straight out of the comics would be awesome for games. They did it slightly with Ultimate Alliance 2 and I loved it. But if they’re not going to go that route I’m at least glad that they’re hiring actual comic writers to script the games now a days… Slott for Shattered Dimensions and now Peter David for Edge of Time. Good move on the game companies part.
@Brian – I agree that you don’t NEED a good storyline for a game to be good. I grew up on games whose story was just an excuse to do stuff. Nowadays, though, it’s almost a requirement, especially for comic book adaptations.
Come to think of it, when was the last time something was adapted straight out of the comics? I think mostly development teams hire writers to come up with original stuff.
Maximum Carnage as downloadable content for consoles IS a good alternative, I agree.
carnage is probly my fav spider-man villain. I think is good we still have a symbiote character that is just pure evil, cause there are not many of them left.
But I agree though. I prefer my games to have a good story on them. Maybe releasing the Maximum Carnage sega game as an Xbox Live arcade game at some point would work.
Just because the gamer wants a good storyline doesn’t mean you’re going to get it. They’ve been plenty of fun, enjoyable games with a weak storyline. I think they could stretch that story out somehow if they got the right development team behind it.
Personally, I think adapting Maximum Carnage to a videogame in this day and age would prove difficult, given the modern gamer’s sensibilities, i.e., the game needs a *good* storyline. Maximum Carnage barely had a storyline.
But hey, games with dumb storylines always proved to be the best brawlers back in the day. 😉
@14 That game was awesome. I had it for SEGA and think I only beat it like maybe two or three times. It would be awesome if they adapted that game to a modern system.
I just hope we saw some crossovers with Carnage, Venom, and Anti-Venom. Part of Anti-Venom’s whole schtick was his destroying the symbiotes. Hasn’t had a confrontation with Venom since “New Ways to Die” (though the new Flash Venom is hardly an opposite of Anti-Venom like Gargan was), but I like the idea of Eddie confronting Kletus again, it’s been too long.
Love it or hate it, the game kicked ass.
Maximum Carnage done RIGHT.
Here’s hoping.
… Maximum Carnage II?
So now Venom and Carnage both have artificial legs? Yeesh.
The symbiote went dormant and nearly died trying to keep Cletus alive up in orbit. The Hall guy’s company found him up there or whatever and they gave him an advanced bionic bottom half of his body, it’s cooler than I made it sound.
Looks like I’m not done with Carnage after all. Seems like he’s latched onto me.
@7
Since when does a symbiot need a host to survive? We’ve seen those things go for extended periods of time without one before.
I know that the symbiote sort of kept him alive, but he was basically ripped in half. It’s like how Harry’s goblin formula saved him from being killed from the formula, it doesn’t really make sense. If Cletus was dead, the symbiote wouldn’t have a host, so that would also die.
@tnr105 – Check out Nathaniel’s review on Carnage either #3 or #4. I don’t wanna spoil it here.
I haven’t read the Carnage mini, so can someone tell me how the hell Cletus is alive?
So this is Maximum Carnage but with more symbiotes and less issues?
What butters said.
Although it will most likely be…underwhelming… the fact it seems to be playing off of Flash as the government’s Venom leaves me cautiously optimistic.
Also, what the hell is up with Carnage? He was ripped in half by the Sentry! In Space! Though that’s actually Bendis’ fault for writing Carnage like Ultimate Carnage.
Well I guess we know that Carnage will survive carnage #5
