Hey, all. Michael Bailey here with some good news in a bad situation. As many of you know our webmaster and grand pooh bah of the Crawlspace lives in Joplin, Missouri. At around 6 PM on Sunday night a tornado hit Joplin leaving telephone connections largely cut off and many without power. While there were numerous injuries and, sadly, a few fatalities Brad wanted me to let everyone know that he and his family are fine. He is without Internet service at the moment otherwise he would have posted this himself. Joplin is the home of the Crawlspace, so let’s keep its citizens in our thoughts and prayers tonight.
If you would like to contribute to the relief and rescue efforts visit the Ozarks Red Cross, which you can find by clicking on this link.
I am sure Brad will be on as soon as he can to give us more details but until then let’s keep those positive thoughts coming and leave a comment on this post letting Brad know that we all are thinking about him and his hometown. I think this is one time where we can all put aside our negative thoughts and come together as a community to support the guy that makes all of this possible.
As a photography fan, I have a few photo blog/websites bookmarked which I try to check a few times a week. I came across these images this morning which illustrate the damage done to Joplin. I will submit a WARNING that the images are obviously tragic and some may consider them graphic. At the very least, amid all the destruction, we are able to see people working together. The tornado may have destroyed the city, but it certainly hasn’t destroyed the community:

This has been a really s**** year for twisters. First we dodge a few, now BD has to deal with them? Life’s just not fair sometimes.
I’m pleased to hear that Brad’s doing well. I wish you a speedy recover and wish nothing but the best to you and your family. Hope to hear from you soon, buddy. 🙂
I’m glad to hear that you and your family are okay, Mr. Douglas. I’m sorry for everyone else living in Joplin, especially the people that were injured or killed.
@Matt Byrd
Nice words and a good sentiment. I agree!
Hey all,
I’m here at my folks computer in Cuenca Ecuador right now reading about Brad and his state and his city, when I heard it from my folks Canadian friends at dinner tonight I like ALL OF YOU felt my heart sank. I am very glad to pray for everything that has been chaotic throughout the whole of our country the united states, I live in Washington state and pray that “WE ALL” as the whole world can be better as everyday people in times of need to each other when times like these arise. I wish Brad and HIS love ones the greatest of ease if it’s needed I believe everyone should pray about something happening just to make a bit of difference in the world as a whole whatever time it is just Pray for someone you know or even someone you don’t! God Bless our little planet with love, when WE can’t see how to please?
I’m glad to hear you’re ok Brad! We will keep everyone in our hearts and minds.
Oh I missed this thread. Im glad hes ok!
@Wheatcakes lol, great job trying to lighten the mood 😉
@Wheatcakes lol, way to lighten the mood 😉
Mr Wacker, must you be so sarcastic????
Oh wait, you were serious. Sorry, force of habit. 🙂
Its crazy when stuff like this happens, good to hear you and your family are ok though.
@Stephen Wacker
That’s not such a bad idea Mr. Wacker. Even though the 2 factions of fans sometimes disagree on comics, it’s always nice when we can join together and unite to help each other out. in times of adversity
Check this out. It seems that not only did a Joplin-area comic shop (Hurley’s Heroes) survive relatively unscathed, but they’re also offering whatever aid they’re able to.

@BD: Are you familiar with that shop? I know you get most of your stuff through Mail Order, but I have the strangest feeling you’ve mentioned Hurley’s Heroes on the podcast.
Maybe there’s something the two fraternities here can do to raise some dough.

Hey man. I had no clue you lived near that area. I’m glad that everyone’s okay.
Brad, I know this is a hard time for you and yours. I saw this today, and immediately thought of you. Hope it helps bring a little cheer to you in this tough time.

(Stick with it until 0:51…you’ll see! 😉 )
Thank god that you and your family are okay Brad. 😀
Sorry about your town though, but at least you and your family are safe and sound. 🙂
My prayers to you everyone
This is very good to hear, Brad.
Joplin is a nice town. I hate hearing about this.
SW
Good to hear you’re alright Brad. 🙂
Someone should sticky this post so it won’t get snuffed by the other articles.
So sorry to hear about this, glad you are all OK. How’s your house? Any damage?
I saw this on Fox News this morning. I had no idea it had happened. Glad you and your family are okay.
I had no idea this happened, so it came a little as a schock. Good that you and your family are okay though Brad.
We’ll be praying for everyone in Joplin.
Glad to hear everything is ok with you and yours. I was also like Tonyd117, knowing I had heard of Joplin, but not exactly sure why.
Glad to hear you and your family are okay Brad.
What a tragedy for Brad’s town. I’m glad his family is OK. The tornadoes have been terrible lately.
Glad to hear BD and family are safe.
Wow. All I can say is tragic. Glad to hear BD and family are safe.
Brad, don’t worry about updating the crawlspace or editing podcasts. Right now, you have more important priorities to deal with.
Brad’s a lot like Spider-Man that way.
Only in the news business… “my hometown just got devastated, chaos reigns, incalculable loss – time to go to work…”
Thank you to Mike and everyone that posted. My family and I are ok. The tornado hit about a mile away. We were so lucky. The devastation is indescribable. We just got power and internet access back at my house. We were all huddled in the basement as it went through last night and I have friends that have lost family and everything. So please keep Joplin in your prayers and thoughts.
Also thank you to Mike Bailey for the line that the “Joplin is the home of the Crawlspace, so let’s keep its citizens in our thoughts and prayers tonight.” That was very sweet and well written. In the meantime I’m going to go get ready for work.
Glad to hear brad and his family are okay.
Just saw the news this morning. Good lord….
http://www.foxnews.com/us/2011/05/22/tornado-hits-minnesota-1-killed/
this is unreal.. 89 dead and there may be more…glad to hear BD and company are OK…
Good to hear you’re alright. But I’m sure that tornado left a lot on your plate for the future. Hope everything works out ok.
I knew there was a reason I’d heard of Joplin before! Glad to hear Brad and his family are okay.
Holy crap! I didn’t know about this…
I’m happy BD is all right!
Good to hear Brad and his family are alright. Not good times recently with Mother Nature, tornadoes, volcanoes, floods, massive fires obliterating small towns off maps. Just ain’t right.
Glad to hear the main man himself is ok !
That’s good to hear. Unfortunately my small town got a big black eye when those tornadoes swept through the south last month, so I know what the aftermath is like. Terrible stuff, and my thoughts are with all those affected.
It’s sad to hear the terrible news about the town, but on the other hand, I’m very thankful to hear that Brad and his family are safe and sound.
Glad to hear it! Truth be told, when I heard the news my thoughts went directly to Brad and his family.
Glad to hear you and your family are alright. My best wishes to you and everyone else in Joplin.
Happy to hear his family is safe.
Good to hear that Brad and his family are safe.
My prayers go out to the town.
Thank you for the update! Brad, hope you can give us details soon.
Glad to hear you and your family are safe Brad.
My thoughts go out to you and your town.
Glad to hear it, stay safe.
Glad to hear it. I’d sent a text earlier but hadn’t heard back and was a bit worried. Thanks Bailey!!
