Popsugar snapped a few pictures of either actor Andrew Garfield or a stunt man in the new Spider-Man movie suit. This is the first picture I’ve seen of it from head to toe along with the new design on the back. What is he doing to that one guy? What are your thoughts?

What’s going on here?! A stunt double or a plot spoiler? http://splashpage.mtv.com/2011/02/04/spider-man-reboot-set-photos/
Cripes. When the first pic for the new movie costume was shown, I honestly didn’t think it looked bad. But the more pics come out, the worse I feel about it. And that second picture just isn’t right.
Who’s the costume designer on this movie? I’m guessing it not James Acheson anymore…?
These aren’t official pics, so I’m hoping the in-movie look is going to be okay. But this really does look like my old Mego spidey 3″ figure!
Great. My favorite hero has become a big red phallus.
You do realize this could be merely a still from a scene of Spider-Man flipping a bad guy merely selected to make jokes?
I’ll be watching Superhero Squad instead of staring at this image
@Listen Bud – There no amount of CG that could make this train wreck of a suit look good. I don’t even think James Cameron with an Avatar budget could do anything for this suit.
When shots surfaced on the internet of Raimi’s suit in action, it was still close to what ended up in the film. Therefore I wouldn’t put much hope in CGI fixing this costume up.
Sorry, ignore the last three lines of my previous post, I completely misread the part of ratpacks post that references the eyes.
Man, thanks ratpack for reminding me how silly it is to take anyone on the internet seriously.
You have no hope at all? Based on a couple of pap shots of a costume? So the script, directing, acting, visual effects, music, editing and photography are all irrelevant? a side note? In your opinion the entire movie lives or dies on whether you like the costume or not?
I’m not debating your opinion of the costume, but how extreme your reaction is considering what you’re basing it on.
Also, on a side note, just so you know, I wouldn’t judge the eyes till an official image of the mask is released. Reports suggest that unfortunately the stuntmen have had trouble seeing through them during filming so far and they are now using the glass/silver eye pieces with intention of replacing them in the edit later with white eyes.
This certainly tallies when we look at the white eyes we saw the stuntmen wearing for filming over the last couple of weeks, which were various shades of white.
Some crazy digital designer idiot was given a free shot at the costume. Judging by the look of this, I have no hope at all for the movie. But then again I never really cared for live action versions of my comic book heros.
Why the hell doesn’t anybody get the mask, the eyes right? Even Rami’s mask sucked. I know they’ll fix it in the post and they’ll make them white, but the white eyes got a black border and it is that border, that defines thr look of the mask.
I’ll give up. Fuck that movie and I’m close to cancelling my subscription for Amazing as well. Shity times for a Spidey fan of the Romita era.
I hope CGI fixes this up!
garbage absolute garbage… you shouldn’t have to convince yourself that this is worth putting in a movie. When I first saw the costume for the “original” film, they got it right. Who knows what they’re trying to do with this. It looks l like a cross between spiderman-unlimited and some flamboyant costume from Blades of Glory.
is this a picture of new porn video? cause spidey sure has a big one!
Didn’t know it was going to be R ratesd I thought Spidey liked MJ not BJ…
Even though this costume is ugly, at least it isn’t the red and gold Spidey/Iron Man suit from Civil War!!!!!!!
… THE F*** IS THAT?!?!?
I am sorry… but no amount of spin…
I’m not buying the whole “stunt suit” excuse either. Why the hell would they make the “stunt suit” look different?
reserving judgment on the movie despite my feelings about it, verdict’s in on the suit. FAIL.
Ugh. This is what I would have expected the “Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark” suit to look like after seeing those Green Goblin/Swiss Miss pictures. Say what you will about Julie Taymor, but at least she knew enough not to mess around with the Spidey suit. This movie outfit isn’t absolutely horrendous, but still pretty bad and very disappointing, especially since they got the suit so right the first time around. That said, at least 80% of the suit’s problems would be fixed if they just kept the original “belt” design on it!
Spider-man…now with more croutch action!
First of all, let me say that I think Andrew gardield himself looks a good deal more like Peter Parker of the comics than Tobey Maguire did.
That said….well…..
I was expecting from day one a markedly different design aesthetic, especially when we first heard that ominous term “reboot”. Like Iron_Patriot, I’m really trying my hardest not to prejudge….but it’s getting progressively harder.
Okay, I can understand the producers’ need to differentiate themselves from the Raimi look-but a tweak here and there, a refining of lines, alterations of the eyes and the suit shadings would have worked quite well. This, however, is a case of being different for its own sake, and it shows.
The suit is just too busy, the lines remind me more of a speed skater’s suit than the iconic Spidey look, which the Raimi films captured ideally. This interpretation just doesn’t work visually. It’s too distracting.
And that codpiece? Oh, sweet merciful God! Either either the poor man has gangrene in the worst possible place or the film makers are blatently pandering.
I hate to sound overly negative (and I’m sure that this is a stunt suit, and the “hero” suit will probably film better. Hell, that “crotch attack” may not make it into the final cut of the film), but unless the results on film are a world better than this, this suit (and possibly the movie) will be the butt of crotch jokes from every reviewer and late night comedian in the country.
Simply baaaaaaad. The more I see, the more I’ll wait for the rental.
I can deal with everything except the belt. Where’s the belt? It doesn’t look right just ending like that!
Because of the facehumping, this is obviously BND Spidey.
Fail. Fail. Fail.
@George: They smoked in the movies tho. JJJ and Doc Ock smoked.
@#19–I meant “doesn’t.” 😮
@ Steerpike Maybe it’s Larry Blackmon in the suit! 🙂
…… THE HELL IS WITH THE COD PIECE?!
I’ll paraphrase Michael Bailey here: I will not make final judgement on anything from rumor mills, trailers or photos until the movie was out,my ass was in the theater and I was watching the final product.
But dammit, they’re making this hard for me!
I hope this is a fake movie shoot to keep the paparazzi at bay, and they are filming the real one somewhere else. 2099 suit on crack.
@George… I wonder if they’ll make facehumping one of his special moves in the new Marvel vs. Capcom 3
Looks like complete shit. The more I see it, the more I hate it. It doesn’t even look like Spider-Man really.
Yeah, the more pictures of the new Spider-Man costume that get released, the more apprehensive I am about it. It does seem like this is a case of the filmmakers tweaking the costume to make it seem more realistic, plausible, or functional but rather tweaking it merely for the sake of making it look different, especially to make it different from the costume in the Sam Raimi films. Unfortunately, the alterations have made the costume look worse. Who was it that said, “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” again?
“Kiss me big boy!” Lol. As for the black lenses, that’s what they used for the first movie. The white lenses are a bitch to see through; these are stunt lenses.
I think the gloves are what I find the gayset on that costume. Although I don’t like several, it’s the gloves that take the cake.
As far as that pic goes….. well…..um…. I’m just gonna imagine he’s getting powerbombed by that guy. Or giving a Hurricaranna but I think he’s too close to the car for that.
“It makes it look like they’re putting some focus on the agile, quick fighting style Spidey is known for.”
And facehumping!
Will Spidey be facehumping people in the new movie? Just so long as no one’s smoking!
And the costume is still ass.
–Hater George
Meh… Let’s see where it goes.
In the words of Charlie Brown: “Good grief!”
What Surprises Me More Than That Suit Is The Fact BD Didn’t Make A Joke About That 2nd pic! lol
those eyes are terible
…It looks a bit like Nightcrawler’s suit, dosn’t it?
this is starting to get sad. I dont mean the movie is going to be bad but alot of these paparazzi photos have not been flattering even though it may look ten times better when we see it in film. lets hope…
Moving away from design, which in my opinion isn’t anywhere near a blasphemous as some people seem to feel.
The only issue I have is that some of the other closer shots of the head from this shoot make the mask look rubbery (These images can be found on most other sites). And I would much rather it had a fabric look, but it’s hardly make or break for the movie if the costume isn’t exactly what I would prefer.
I wish some fans would stop acting like the sky is falling because they don’t like it. 95% of movie going audiences won’t notice the difference or care.
So, basically – they WANT knowledgeable
fans to stay away from this movie?
That’ll work. . .
That looks horrendous. Again, we have to take the materiality with a grain of salt, because this is the stunt design (which should be thinner and more flexible than the “show suit”), but the aesthetics are terrible.
Okay, I kinda like the black eyes but….man this sucks.
I just can’t warm up to it. He looks like an Olympic speed skater and an alien head.
patiently waiting for the trailer… I hope seeing the suit and moves in action make it look better. I do like the action shots though. It makes it look like they’re putting some focus on the agile, quick fighting style Spidey is known for. I think one of the best scenes in the original trilogy was in the first movie when he beat up the thugs robbing the armored car. That was very quick and acrobatic-y like you would expect out of Spider-Man.
Pictures like that one on the right are why Marvel.com has blocked your site Brad. 🙂
THIS IS A JOKE RIGHT?
