Podcast 110- Spider-Panel Goes Back to 1990

In this episode we take a trip back to August 1990 and talk about Todd McFarlane’s Spider-Man #1. It was the biggest selling Spider-Man comic of all time. It’s all part of JR’s “This Month in Spider-History.” We also give our recommendations for the month and tackle your dozens of message board questions. Some of the highlights include:
*What type of Spider-Man tattoo would you get?
*If we were stuck in a car on a cross country trip, what Spider-Villain would we like in the car?

  1. Inception was not very good. It was not smart – it was messy.
No semblence of logic or theory- just a lot of half formed ideas tossed out to conufuse- in the end it violated most all of any premise
it was building and offered what? A tweest?
Dissapointing, about a thousand miles from memento.

Yeah the cgi scenee witht the pancake city was kind of neat- but pick up just about Any video game these days to see an equally well created effect.
It had the super well light- bright lighting effect that smacks of pc games.

    Under the RedHood- Very good.
BUt the Neil Patrick Harris worship needs to slow it’s roll.
He is a good actor, but not everything he does is gold.
I think his characterization of Nightwing was poor. He was wayyy to joky and light for even Dick Greyson.

    It was distracting.

The Joker was Great- Jason Todd was good.

  2. Happy 12th Anniversary to the Crawl Space… I was 31 back in 1998 and becoming a Dad…

It is indeed hard to believe that 20 years have gone by… I was lucky to get both green & black covers (both bagged & unbagged) at the time… too bad the story was so lackluster… my only complaints with Todd’s artwork was that he spent very little time with backgrounds…

I love the laughs over “Jason Jerome” kissing MJ… wasn’t Aunt May going to marry a Johnny Jerome before she hooked up with Ben (as seen in Spec Annual #4)?

I’m curious about this Dark Blue recommendation…

The Brad recommendation of FrankenCastle is spot on… having grown up in the 70’s, I love those old Marvel monsters…

Quick question to the older guys… did you guys read the original run of the Micronauts and what were your thoughts?

I also have a Spider-Man tattoo on my right outer calf… it’s the JR Sr. version from ASM #68 (Crisis on Campus) which is drawn to scale… and to Kevin, I had it before my wife married me and I still get LOTS of “action”…

    Nice podcast…

  3. The Spiders Web was a comic story partially owned by Todd McFarlane. I think it was in Bellingham, Wa or some town on the west side of Washington State. I have some autographed McFarlane stuff done by him personally, which was a long time ago.

I have no complaints about Spider-man comics then. They actually seem to be going somewhere and that’s what was important. Spider-man actually was heroic and everything.

  4. Brad I wish I had more than just dial up internet service because I’d love to here this one, and also Todd will always be a better creator in my own eyes than Marvel’s E.I.C. any day to me anyway.
