This is the first appearance of Allistar Smythe (son of Spencer Smythe). Here he looks more like "Comic Book Guy" than the slim robotic man he would become. This classic hilarious story is from "Amazing Spider-Man" […]

From "Spectacular Spider-Man" issue 119. This moment has always stayed with me. Writers are always trying to make the Spider-Man books fun, and Peter David always knew how to pull it off.

Peter knew how to keep warm during those cold nights. This is a scene from Web of Spider-Man # 50.

Yeah, I like the issue well enough – it is, after all, classic Lee/Ditko goodness – but the alien bit just always seemed ill-fitting to me. Suffice to say, I’m a fan of Stern’s retcon.
I remember reading this for the first time and wondering how any of this made any sense. Y’see, I knew of the Tinkerer, but didn’t know of the alien retcon by Roger Stern years later. That reminds me, I gotta read that sometime.
