Dark Reign: Mr. Negative #1 Review

When it Reigns, it pours.

DARK REIGN: MR. NEGATIVE #1

WRITER: Fred Van Lente

ARTIST: Gianluca Gugliotta

INKS: Lanning & Justice

LETTERS: Dave Lanphear

PLOT:

White Dragon confronts Mr. Negative on behalf of The Hood, but then gets negativised (controlled by Mr. Negative) and sent to battle Z-List villains. The Hood takes care of it and declares war on the villainous Negative.

Betty Brant tries some journalism and visits Martin Li’s wife, before an explosion cuts power. Our group of Z-Listers (Remember The Squid?) are attacking Chinatown and run into Hammerhead (sounding like somebody from Rubbish Exposition: The Movie) and the Inner Demons (good name for a rock band). Spider-Man shows up to help Li, but is negativised and sent to attack the goons.

Let battle ensue!

LIKES:

-Good to see a few Z-Listers now and then.

DISLIKES:

-Some of the dialogue.

-Bored throughout.

THOUGHTS:

Not much to talk about here. This mini-series is a tie-in to a tie-in, that basically sums it up and shows it’s lack of importance. Not a lot happens, it set up a confrontation between The Hood’s crew and Mr. Negative. Add in a negativised Spider-Man and you have a completely generic story.

Yay?

Nobody has any personality and no intriguing questions are set up. I have no reason to read further, unless you want to see more negativised (that word will stick, even if I have to die making it stick) villains and heroes. The art was basic and satisfied the story, but it wasn’t anything to get excited about.

WORST QUOTE:

I will be hammer and anvil. They will break against me.

Cheers for that, Hammerhead.

OVERALL:

1.5 out of 5 webheads.

Boring. Only “negative” points to make.

Heh.
