The Topless Robot website, it’s not what you think ya perv, has listed the 12 dumbest Spider-Man stories. I agree with some, disagree with others. Click on this link to check it out. FYI, why is Maximum Carnage always on these lists?

This list could easily be expanded to the 20 worst with a few more additions, like any Hypno Hustler story, the Spot and many others. There is no doubt that every story listed here is terrible and I will not defend a single one. But I disagree with Maximum Carnage being the worst of the bunch. I would flip One More Day and Maximum Carnage in their order, drop the Razorback story (there are tons of stories like that one…) and replace it with the Clone Saga. Lastly, I also find it tough to read ant analysis that has an overemphasis on using profanity to get a point across. It was too much and detracted from an otherwise well researched and comprehensive list.
Actually, I just reread Maximum Carnage a week ago, it’s placement on that list is apt. It’s pretty unredeemable. Obviously, the National Guard would’ve been called in and a state of emergency declared. MJ would have to be unbelievably stupid to go out dancing and flirting with men during this situation. The heroes are saved by a “dues ex machina love bomb” built off panel. For people who think this is the story that shows Spidey growing into a leader, read it again. If anything it proves why Spidey should NEVER be put in charge of anything ever. (Venom is seen more often taking charge, then Captain America, and Spidey only tags along and whines alot.) Just plan awful storytelling from start to finish.
Also, this was published in the 90’s, why were all the thugs dressed like it was still the early 80’s? (Update your visual references guys!)
Glad I found this site. Keep up the good work!
Yeah I don’t agree with #1. Maximum Carnage certainly isn’t the worst Spidey story ever. I mean there were way more worse on that list. Its a stupid list.
Next please!
This guy fails immediately for callying Paul Jenkins the worst Spider-Man writer ever. Thats just insane. But a lot of those stories ARE REALLY BAD.
