Right before and after the Ultimate Spider-Man game was released I spent some time on GameFAQs on the (Xbox) boards just chatting and what not and there was something going around about a Spidey game based in the traditional (616) Spidey universe that would be a HUGE effort...a combination of USM and SM2 games with all kinds of alternate costumes and cool unlockables thrown in. An original story separate from any of the comics and movies was being written and they had even intended on it including some unlockables inspired by the 90's Fox cartoon series. I BELIEVE it was being simply called The Amazing Spider-Man.

I do remember hearing about that, but that was it. It was never followed up on, and it may just have been an idea that fizzled out.

Yeah, the N64, PS1, and Dreamcast versions were all the same except for minor differences in graphics.

I think if I ever acheive the status of Video Game Developer, I'd create one helluva awesome Spidey game. I'd put a free-roaming mode in there, similar to Spider-Man 2, and also include dozens of missions based on stories from the comics (Death of Gwen and Goblin, Sinister Six, Sins Past, and first appearance of Venom come to mind as good beat em up missions plus stuff like racing and puzzle for a few missions too). Maybe add the ability to play smaller storylines as Reilly and Spider-Girl too; then it'd be a truly amazing (no pun intended) Spider-Man game Sorry for going off like that, I just needed to put the idea out there.

I would LOVE a game where you could take over EVERY Marvel Character and play ALL of their storylines
eg: Spider-Man-Clone Saga
and in the end you could play CIVIL WAR

I think it isn't very likely that they will cover that much in one game, simply because they would want to spread over serveral games.

Not to mention the real world problem of the licensing issues; three or four different companies have the rights to different characters. There's a Marvel online coming for the X Box which might be what you're looking for, but I doubt it's got much in the way of what you described other than having a bunch of heroes.
