Greg Weisman on Why Spectacular Spider-man was Cancelled

I found this link on ign.com: http://www.s8.org/gargoyles/askgreg/sea ... ?qid=14223. I thought it was both interesting and sad.

I think I had read something like this months ago. It's sad that such a good show had to end. I saw Weisman plug the Ultimate Spidey show at the end but it fell flat to me. Then again he did say it's for a new generation so that's code speak for it not being for older fans.

I think you're reading too much into that. Greg's just being a real professional and telling people not to hate on Ultimate just because it's not Spec. He's not seen anything Ultimate related, especially at the time of writing that since it was two months before Ultimate aired. He has said he's not going to watch it because good or bad he's going to regret it so there's no point in him watching it.

Someone tell him they're not hating on it because it's not Spec... they're hating on it because it's NOT AS GOOD as Spec.

As a business matter I can somewhat understand the reasoning behind their decision...but I don't have to like it.

On a side note, just bought the complete first season of Spec on DVD, so now I can watch it whenever I want. 8)

"Whether Aunt May dies or not isn't the question. If she dies, does it mean anything beyond a brief sales spike because collectors/speculators think they'll be able to make a profit selling the book later? That is the question. Back when, Stan and company won our hearts and minds. I cared about Spider-Man and the other Marvel characters as though they were friends. I cared every time Aunt May got sick. That's what good creative work does."

rewatched the venom arc from season 2 recently. I predict that in a future season Weisman would've done a 3-4 episode arc introducing carnage given what happened in season 2 episode 7

Eddie was carted off ranting like a lunatic so he might've been placed in a cell with Kasady. the end of one episode could've had the symbiote return to free brock just as happened in the michelinie run. the next episode would've had Peter and venom duke it out with spider-man beating venom perhaps by trapping him on an island or faking his death again like in the Michelinie run. the episode after that would introduce Carnage having obtained a piece of venom's symbiote from the break out, and showcase just how outmatched spider-man would be against him. the final episode would be spidey setting venom free and the two teaming up to take down carnage. that scenario is very similar tot he first carnage arc from the comics

I want to visit Earth 7 where the show continued and then bring back the DVD's.

I want to visit earth 8 (see what i did there) where the spec show continued after the sixth season of the 90s show and after the third spider-man movie was more coherent...and maybe the comics were different
