I never noticed the lack of punching but the cops having laser guns was annoying.

It says something that they basically appropriated that version for SM3. It didn't help the movie, but...

I have vision problems, therefore I place less emphasis on the visual aspect of a multimedia presentation. That's probably why I'm willing to put up with worse effects/visuals than others of my acquaintance. I tend to focus more on the story.
I loved these stories.
When the show started, I was already semi-familiar with the basics of Spider-Man, and I was rather impressed with how they compressed thirty years of stories, as it was then, into those few seasons they had, while making it all relatively consistent and coherent. (OK, take your shot at "Red Skull Junior" Electro. It still worked for the show.) They were even ready to start the (infamous) Clone Saga that was under way in the comics.
One of the things I liked best about the series was that it didn't begin with the Spidey-Origin, but instead held it for the "Make a Wish" story, where it could be told well. On the opposite end of the spectrum, I hated every time OJ/some random car chase pre-empted the show. There are still some episodes I haven't seen because of that!
I admit I haven't seen SSM yet, mostly because I only hear about these things after they've been cancelled, so I can't really compare them yet, but when I do, I'll still probably prefer this one, just to be contrary.

I Loved both Spider-Man The Animated Series and the Spectacular Spider-Man. Another one that I Loved quite a bit, that I don’t believe that has been mention yet is the MTV animated Spider-Man. It’s hard for me to pick a favorite between these. They were all so very different but so very good. [smilie=spidey_rolling.gif]

I'd have to agree with many people here that the quality of story telling in 'Spectacular Spider-man' has yet to be surpassed by any other Spidey show. TAS was a wonderful introduction for kid's in the 90's, but as an adult it doesn't hold up the same way, say, Batman TAS does.

Long story short my vote goes to 'Spectacular'.

I completely agree. I love both but Specatular has appeal across the age groups. The makers of Ultimate seem to think you can appeal to young kids but not adults at the same time.
