July 2012 Solicitations

Postby Phantom Roxas » Fri Apr 13, 2012 11:23 pm

Courtesy of Bleeding Cool.

I am expecting plenty of facepalms due to some of the synopses, and I think Marvel has managed to get worse at spoiling their stories in the solicits, and yet at the same time they put "classified" under a few times.

That Scarlet Spider cover is beautiful.

Quite a few of those have nice covers. I particularly like the Wolverine: Sabretooth Returns cover. Very nice.

dornwolf will be pissed to see Black Widow fighting Bucky and hooking up with Hawkeye, which I presume is about the fifty billionth tie-in to The Avengers movie. Now I'm not sure if I simply want the Avengers to win AvX or if I just expect them to.

It occurs to me that Defenders is yet another title that needs to address the events of AvX, considering Doctor Strange and Namor are the classic members on the team.

X-Men Legacy sounds interesting, although I think it will be Rogue that changes sides.

That Dark Avengers cover is awesome, although I've heard we've rarely, if ever, seen Doom's face in the comics.

What are people's thoughts on Flash fighting Toxin? I like the idea of Flash getting his own version of the Sinister Six, but I have seen people upset over Toxin's previous host supposedly being killed. I for one am just surprised that Toxin looks more buff than Carnagezord did in the 2010 mini.

Agreed about the Scarlet Spider cover. I don't know why, but I'm far more willing to accept Kaine becoming an anti-hero and getting his own book than I am of Venom, even though the Clone Saga went out of its way to make him one of Peter's premiere villains, but at least his first trade is being released.

Speaking of the Clone Saga, I'm glad to see The Complete Ben Reilly Epic Book 5 officially listed. Now they just need to list Book 6 for October so they can just get to the end. In what I expect to be less exciting is that The Next Chapter Volume 3 will also be released the following month, although I think The Next Chapter will only be five volumes long. The Juggernaut trade only seems to serve as an alternative to the Essentials to those who prefer color to black-and-white. I prefer the omnibuses, but the only one they're releasing in July is Man-Thing, who I know absolutely nothing about.

I'm hoping that Assemble cover's is not exactly as it appears--maybe her and Hawkeye have to lie low and to blend in and avoid the captors she kisses him, that old trick--something that acknowledges the closer relationship they apparently have in the movie. Besides, isn't Hawkeye hooked up with Spider-Woman right now? I thought I saw something like that.

Implied in these solicits and confirmed by Bleeding Cool: Ryan Stegman leaves Scarlet Spider for Fantastic Four, replaced by Khoi Pham.
http://www.bleedingcool.com/2012/04/14/ ... stic-four/

Which, I admit, disappoints me badly, as Stegman's art was great on that book. I don't mind Pham, but it doesn't excite me in the same way. Having said all that, FF is obviously a bigger gig and Stegman was obviously too up-and-coming an artist to stay on a B-level spin-off book for long. Hope he does well, also hope Pham brings good work to Scarlet Spider.
Read Hobson & Choi - my comedy-mystery webserial - right now.

I'm aware that he's hooked up with Spider-Woman. The preview for Avengers #25 shows them still in a relationship. However, that scenario you predicted? I would expect it in Secret Avengers. Avengers Assemble takes the movie tie-ins to the extreme by having that be the sole reason it even exists. What's odd is that I can read the solicit for Secret Avengers, and yet the cover for Avengers Assemble seems more fitting for that than the actual Secret Avengers cover. Perhaps they're setting up a connection between both books similar to how Avengers and New Avengers had the H.A.M.M.E.R. War? Once The Avengers isn't in theaters anymore, the book will need to see a shift in direction because the need to hype up the movie will have come and gone.

Damn right I'm a little pissed because it makes about as much sense as Hawkeye and Spider-woman right now, which DKJ is right they did hookup. And sadly it is probably all meant for the friggin movie.

God, it's lose lose...

Widow is a much better choice than S-Woman, but that means we have to screw over Bucky again... And just no. The Bucky character deserves better than that.

And is no one gonna address the No More Avengers thing? Seems like the game changer issue of AvX.
Also that site lay out is atrocious... Why can't you have cover and solicit side by side?

That being Said, Stegman on Fantastic Four..l. Hells Yes!

I got that "No More Avengers" is a blatant throwback to House of M, but I think it paints Cylcops as a hypocrite. Scarlet Witch gets rejected for the "No More Mutants" curse, but Cyclops can do the same for Avengers? Granted, there's a difference between a race and a superhero title, but I'm guessing that it's just driving Cylcops more towards the villain side.

I hate Bleeding Cool's format for the same reason, but Newsarama and CBR didn't have the solicits when I posted this. If there's a site that has the solicits faster than Bleeding Cool, but uses a format similar to CBR, I would definitely be linking to that.

Because Bleeding Cool's format sucks, here's CBR's article for the solicits.
