and here's the description

“Mourning the death of his beloved, Superman carries both a sadness in his heart along with the weight of Earth 2′s welfare upon on his shoulders, while never showing this and seeming to all that he is this world’s peerless champion,” said EARTH 2 writer James Robinson.

“What would you have to do to teach Superman to kill?” asks EARTH 2 editor Pat McCallum. “He’s endured the loss of his home world, and now the Last Son of Krypton must weather the death of his soul mate Lois Lane. Just how far can you bend the Man of Steel before he breaks?”

He even sounds better than the Nu-Superman

So in one Earth he and Lois aren't together and in the other she's dead. Sounds a lot like what Marvel has tried to do with Mary Jane.

Pretty much a given really, being married is apparently a bad thing remember it makes you old and we all should be angry with our selves for wanting that, why else would The Flash erase his own marriage along with Supermans.

And this is no longer any Earth-2 I remember.

One of the points of the old Earth-2 was to explore the idea of superheroic legacies and the dynamic of multiple generations of heroes existing side by side. None of that here so far. This just seems to be an alternate DCnU, where things got darker than the dark that is the current DCnU.

It's becoming really difficult to understand the reason behind launching Earth-2 other than to stick the JSA someplace so that Superman can be the first hero unless their sticking with that Urban legend thing for Batman then it gets tricky.

I made a wise crack about it being the Ultimate Ultimate DC, now I just don't know.

So...this is interesting. Apparently at the DC Message Boards (don't go there anymore, you'll never find a hive of more scum and villainy, etc.), someone created an account (something that apparently wasn't allowed before this account was created), calling themselves Pandora. Here are her messages:

First, this was posted on a WW thread:

Behold, the original sinner has returned.

Soon, the third will be revealed.

Then, "she" created a thread called "The Third SInner Comes" and made a lot of posts there:

I have sinned and been revealed.

Behold, the third is coming with the clouds. Every eye shall see him and the tribes of every earth shall wail on account of him.

He is coming soon.

Pandora has spoken.

...

And with the clouds, the lightning comes.

And he dreams that he can hide! Hide from ME, within that mortal boy!?!?

There has always been a light to cast him out of darkness.

Let there be light.

...

The Third Sinner will soon be revealed and will be brought to his knees soon after.

The three-eyed demon's unholy spawn and the Dark God's zealot daughter know their mission well.

The old wizard will wish he had kept the Third safely tucked away in that rock.

The Third will fall, the Circle shall be reformed.

All in my name.

...

Pandora is and has always been. My thirst for the unknown unleashed all the worlds' evils and I walk these worlds cursed in punishment for it.

The Third sinner comes. The old wizard failed in his charge and he will fall at my hands.

Raven and Zealot are at the ready, as are the soldiers they command.

All in my name. All for Pandora.

So...yeah, they pretty confirmed that Raven's coming back in a big way, and I think they're saying now that Zealot, formerly of the Wildstorm WildCATS, is Darkseid's daughter, not to mention hinted more at the nature of Shazam.

EDIT: Okay, turns out someone was able to create those accounts and was having some fun, so...false alarm.

Speaking of Captain Marvel

Behold the SHAZAM-Hoodie

Oh and Jay Garrick is the latest in costume tragedy's

and Wally and Donna don't exist on Earth-2

and this one I love just cause it proves out little DC truly planned this...

DC and its writers have a tough time figuring out what to call the main DCU Earth. Robinson originally used terms like "Earth One" and "Earth Prime," but Newsarama inquired with DC editorial and was told that Robinson should have used "main DCU Earth." This is the second time a DC writer accidentally used the wrong name for the main DCU Earth in an interview with Newsarama.

Anybody check out the Ann Green Arrow excerpt? Not a huge fan of characters speaking their every action, but it is some good dialogue and the art is beautiful.

That's not a hoodie--that's a cloak. Also, the change kinda surprised me too, but the more I thought about it, the more it makes sense--the original concept of Captain Marvel was to create a wish-fulfillment fantasy, displaying what would be the most ultimate, powerful, and cool-looking adult hero that kids would want to be like, and making it possible with a magic word.

When you think about it this way, which figure do you think more kids would consider badass and want to be more like--a circus strongman, or Ezio from the Assassins Creed games?

I like that costume too--it immediately recalls all the aspects of the original that made it unique and stand out, while making it feel like a modern, high performance suit.

Or, they just can't call it "Earth One" because of the graphic novel line. I think it would be funny if, should the two universes ever really encounter each other in a big way, they squabble at which one is going to be "Earth 2," because who would want to be that?

I did, and while the monologue was a little annoying, it did look rather fun.

Speaking of other DC books that came out this week--Action Comics was AMAZING. The way Superman pushed himself into space, the way he handled the choice given by "Brainiac" between his birth world and his home world, him actually suiting up in the costume for the first time...all great stuff.

Swamp Thing was also pretty goddamn epic with the way that Alec told off the Parlament of Trees, and when he turns into Swamp Thing at the end...oooh, damn near gave me chills. :D

Any thoughts on Harley's new origin?

Joker tosses her into the same vat of chemicals that turned him into the Joker with predictable results. It's stupid.

When it comes to anything from Suicide Squad it's best to never touch it to begin with, you'll have many fond memories unchanged.

See, Suicide Squad is interesting--it was one book that I had no interest in, but I gave the first few issues a read at my shop, and...it's not bad. Not worth the money, but still no where NEAR as awful as I thought it would be.

As for Harley's origin--I kinda saw something like that coming, because they've been trying to put her as being more of Joker's equal for a while now, but I do think Joker actually pushing her into the chemical vat takes away from that a little bit. If it were me, I would have had her actually jump in or douse herself in that chemical of her own accord.

EDIT: Okay, it almost feels cruel to bring this up again, and I wouldn't were it not for the source.

So, Wonder Con's going on, and today DC had an All-Access panel. In it, a member of the audience guessed about, you guessed, Cass and Steph. Berganza said the usual non-definitives--"look for Batman Inc" and all that--but then, Scott Snyder said something very interesting: "We have characters coming up, there's going to be a young woman who plays a very big part in some things soon."

That makes me wonder if maybe, say, Cass or Steph pops up to help out near the end of Scott's Court of Owls storyline or something like that.

Re: The DCU Relaunch Thread

Postby stillanerd » Wed Mar 21, 2012 4:54 pm

Okay, I've been digging Brain Azzerello's Wonder Woman. Even with the retcon to Diana's origin being that she was actually the illegitimate offspring of Zeus and Hippolyta instead fashioned from clay, I was willing to let it slide. However, I think issue #7 really runs the risk of jumping the shark. Why? Because

we learn in this issue how Paradise Island/Themescyria has been able to maintain a population of all women all this time. Rather than being "divine" like Diana assumed, or finding orphaned girls like Donna Troy, what the Amazons actually do is far darker. Every so often, they venture off onto the high seas and when they find a ship with a crew of all men, they seduce the crew into having an orgy. Then, like black widow spiders, they kill off the crew after they're done having sex with them. If an Amazon become pregnant as a result and gives birth to a girl, they raise the girls on the island as one of their own. But if they have a boy, they send the kid off into a lifetime of slavery working in Hephaestus' forge to make their magical weapons and armor. Now granted, I know Azzrello is utilizing more of Greek mythology in Wonder Woman, and that the Amazons in myth would visit a neighboring tribe of men once a year to have sex with and only keep their female babies instead of the males (sometime killing off the boys or leaving them out in the wilderness to fend for themselves depending on the myth) in order to keep their own populations from dying out, but THIS? Good grief.
