Re: Podcast 168: Feb 2012 What did you think?

When Brad asked Bertone if he's still on a boat, did anyone else instantly think of this?

With the trailer--I loved it. To a certain extent, I am looking forward to this more than The Avengers (which looks good, but I kinda fear that it's going to veer into "all spectacle, no substance").

As for the "recent hate" for the Raimi films--I wouldn't say that they were BAD, but in second viewings and forward of them, I do think they wasted potential and were very overhyped. Raimi to me is a lot like George Lucas--great with action and camera movements, but not so much with working with actors, and the only really memorable performances came from the actors that hammed it up. After seeing what Webb can do with 500 Days of Summer and what we've seen of footage, this already looks way better in that regard.

As for the crotch thing...the reason why you guys didn't notice it is because you're actually seeing it through the eyes of the camera, which is what we're supposed to see it from, and not from crappy set photos. Look at Batman's outfit from TDK, for example--very complex and the neck segment, while helping with his movements, look a little silly as a still, but when you're watching the movie, you're too busy having your mind blown to notice.

The icons and "cell-phone signal" things are probably indicators of how much webbing he has on him. Like the ammo indicator you'd see on a video game.

"I can't think of a superhero movie where the girlfriend is in the dark?" Uh...Spider-Man? :P

On Garfield's suggestion of a person of a different race playing Spider-Man--I think even if they don't do the Miles Morales route and in, say, the next trilogy six years from now or so, they cast someone of a different race to play Peter...I'd be surprised, but I can't see myself being legitimately pissed about it as long as the core of the character is intact.

Also, before someone butts in with this old argument--Black Panther is not a good example of this, because, at present, his origin kind-of requires him to be of African descent. I've yet to find a really good argument as to why Peter Parker as a character living in a present-day New York City NEEDS to be white in order to make sense.

Thoughts on the new suit: Doesn't look bad, but it's not like it's going to be around for long.

"DC's been selling themselves on sex." I have to disagree on that. I'm looking at the books that they're publishing right now, and I'm seeing three books that, at the start, had sexual content as a fairly major part of the story: Catwoman, Voodoo, and Red Hood & The Outlaws. Out of those three, the only one that really kept that going was Catwoman, and even that has a lot more going for it.

Can someone link me to this claim about Nightwing? Because I really think that's full of shit.

Honestly we can't. You won't find it on any website, we have inside sources that have confirmed it.

Hmm. I dunno, if it was editorially mandated, then the writer did a DAMN good job at making it fit with the story.

Sex on a plane after Haley revealed he was seconds from death? Didn't work for me. And apparently not for certain people involved in the story .

Brad please don't bash Legacy characters. Without them I wouldn't have a podcast. Without Legacy characters we wouldn't have Flash(Barry Allen), Flash(Wally West), Kid Flash/Flash(Bart Allen) any of the Green Lantern Corps, Robin(Tim Drake), Blue Beetle (Ted Kord), Blue Beetle(Jaime Rayes), Starman(Jack Knight), Batgirl(Cassandra Cain), Batgirl(Stephanie Brown), and others but the ones I named are the one's I like so they came to mind more easily. And yes I'm having trouble thinking of Marvel Legacy characters I like. Not sure if I can count Johnny Storm or not. Was a good episode anyways

I'd disagree that the emos run the school. From my experiences, it's the extroverts who experience the most success, while the nerds and emos are off in their own antisocial world. These days, people are a lot more closed off, so the ones who deal with people are king. Again, this is just I see, other teenager's experiences may differ.

You can look at it two ways:

1. People react to death and try to grieve in different ways. One scene from Firefly comes directly to mind. Comes in at around 3:19 here:

2. Considering what we find out about her later on, there's a lot more going than Dick realized at that moment.

As far as spidey needing help to beat the sinister 6 except when taking on one on one, didn't he beat them together by himself during there first return in asm by Michalinie and larson, the one that takes place before the solo Larson one with the superpowered slug fest you guys were talking about or did he have help in that one two?

Didn't he beat them all in Spectacular Spider-Man? I know it's a cartoon but it's a teen age Spider-Man. I think a full grown Spidey can handle them here and George has a point. He beat the crap out of the X-Men multiple times and The Avengers once. I wanna see him take them all down in one fight. At the End of Avenger vs X-Men they all gang up on Spidey and he beats their asses while getting out of bed drunk.

Didn't he have the black suit during Spectacular Spider-Man?

Also, what I think makes this Ends of the Earth thing different and why he might need the armor is that the Sinister Six's motives are bigger than what I've seen of them in the past. From what I'm hearing, their purpose is literally for world conquest, and I don't think a Sinister Six story's ever had that big a scope. Of course, everyone else's history/knowledge of the character is probably better than mine, so...yeah.

Yeah but after he got rid of the suit he defeated them again. I'm not sure though. So I'm gonna go watch the episode on Netflix real quick

Is it just me or does anyone else think the new costume looks like the proto-costume from MK Spider-man: With great power... ?

It's been brought up before, yeah. It pretty much is that suit, except this is the actual costume.

Damn it.

Actually Doc Ock's goal in both of the Sinister Six stories by Larson was ultimately world domination.
