"Make way and hide your daughters... Shang Chi is in the hizzouse, bitches!"

"Recently, Agent Michigan threw out a challenge to our reigning first place frontrunner, Thrawn. Eager to start up another Thrawnslaught, the Grand Admiral went right for the jugular and chose one of Marveldom's badded big bosses... DOCTOR DOOM!"

Image

"In response, Agent Michigan went with another man in an iron mask... Tony Stark - IRON MAN!"

Image

"Specifically, Agent Michigan chose Iron Man in his Modular Armor. And with his selection in this match Iron Man now goes on the 'Two & Through' list for Season Three. Way to be a hitter, Tony!"

"Since there's bound to be collateral damage in abundance in this one let's throw it out somewhere far in space away from Earth - or as the Tick calls it "where I keep my stuff." How does Klendathu from Starship Troopers grab you?"

Image

"It's an ugly planet. A bug planet. And we never get tired of saying that."

"Those, then, are your choices... a monarch versus an avenger! Who walks away in glory? Who crawls away in defeat? DECIDE NOW!"

"For Commissioner George Berryman and everyone at Friendly Fire Fight Club, this is the Master of Kung Fu bringing the sexy back!"

I think Doom would win the majority of the time in a straight-up brawl. Doom is at least close to Tony in terms of scientific power and sours ahead of Tony in magical power. In terms of strategic thinking I think Doom has a better track record. His reign over Latveria lasted much longer than Tony's command over SHIELD, for instance. Overall Doom just has more going for him. This isn't a blowout by any means but I'm fairly secure in my vote.

Alright, let's get this started.

Image

Anything less than a vote for Doom in this match, is a vote for madness. Isn't that right, Doctor?

Doctor Doom: That is correct, Thrawn.

Now, if you'll allow me to extoll your virtues to the Fight Club voters...

Doctor Doom: YOU MAY! It was these same sniveling fools after all, who thought Wonder Woman could defeat me. Educate them properly lest they be ground into dust underneath my boot heel.

Now where was I? Oh yes, Doctor Doom definitely takes Iron Man. It's not a cakewalk, but he does. Everything Crazychris said, I agree with:

I think Doom would win the majority of the time in a straight-up brawl. Doom is at least close to Tony in terms of scientific power and sours ahead of Tony in magical power. Overall Doom just has more going for him. This isn't a blowout by any means but I'm fairly secure in my vote.

[smilie=spidey_with_stupid.gif]

Let me begin by elaborating on Doctor Doom's basic info, powers, abilities, and skills.

Doctor Doom: Yes, good. Talk slowly so the peasants can understand you and benefit fully from their impending education about all things Doom.

This is going to take much longer if you keep interrupting me Doctor.

Doctor Doom is smarter than Iron Man. Tony Stark himself has admitted as much before in the comics. Scientifically, tactically, politically. Doom is just better than Iron Man. That says a lot, because we all know Tony has an ego.

Now Iron Man is a super genius too [Insert Wile E. Coyote joke here], in fact Iron Man is one of about ten people or so Doom actually does acknowledge as a legitimate threat in the Marve U, the others generally being FF (minus Johnny  ), Black Panther, Doctor Strange, Thor, Hulk, Silver Surfer, Thanos, and a few others.

So Iron Man in in some very prestigious company; but despite that, Iron Man is still not as smart as Doom.

Genius-level Intellect: Doctor Doom's most dangerous weapon is his genius-level intellect. He is easily one of the top mortal minds on the planet. Doom has constructed hundreds of devices, including a working time machine (the first of its kind on Earth), devices which can imbue people with superpowers, and many types of robots.

Doom specializes in physics, robotics, cybernetics, genetics, weapons technology, biochemistry, and time travel. He also has natural talents for leadership, strategy, politics, and manipulation.

Hand to hand, Doom easily takes Stark. Doom is a master of hand to hand combat. Tony is not.

In point of fact, if Iron Man's suit gets damaged, he can no longer fight. That is not true with Doom.

The deciding factor in this matchup, the trump card, something Iron Man has no answer for, is Doctor Doom's sorcery.

Doctor Doom is a master level sorcerer. Few in the Marvel U surpass him, his obvious superior in the magical arts being Doctor Strange.

Gypsy Sorcery: Doctor Doom's potential in the mystic arts comes from the Roma (i.e. Gypsies) heritage of his mother. He learned these abilities from his time with a secret order of monks in Tibet. He further developed his abilities by traveling through time and learning lost Dark Arts.

Doctor Strange originally considered him magically proficient but only a mid-level mage, but now considers Doom one of the most powerful practitioners of sorcery and a potential Sorcerer Supreme.

That's Doctor Strange, the single most powerful sorcerer in the entire Marvel U; the guy who has beaten Shuma Gorath.

His (Doom) knowledge and power is great enough to hold his own against the likes of Morgan le Fay and Doctor Voodoo, the current Sorcerer Supreme. His knowledge of spell-craft likely surpasses Doctor Strange's, former Sorcerer Supreme.

So Doom has two ways to hit you, science and sorcery.

However, he considers his scientific abilities to be more important and has devices that do many of the same things.

Mystical Blasts
Mystical Force-fields
Invoke Entities
Spell Casting
Summoning
Teleportation
Dimensional Travel
Mystical Ensnaring
Mystical Portals

Doom can also transfer his mind into other beings, though he rarely uses it:

Mind Transference: By training with an alien race, Doom has gained the ability to switch his mind with that of another nearby human being with whom he's made eye contact, a process which he learned from the alien Ovoids. However, Doom prefers his own body and only uses this transference power as a last resort.

The sorcery trump card simply outclasses anything Iron Man brings to the table. When you combine that with science that can match Iron Man's, a greater hand to hand ability as a fighter, and the fact that Fight Club is these two guys going all out, Doctor Doom is the clear winner.

Here's the pretty pictures I promised you earlier.

Here's Doctor Doom magically removing Norman Osborn from his armor:

Image

Here's Thanos commenting on Doctor Doom with respect:

Image

Here's Doctor Doom owning Storm - one of the more overrated Marvel characters in recent years -effortlessly.

Image

[smilie=spidey_yeah_that.gif] And that's pre-master level sorcerer Doom.

Here's Doctor Doom completely humiliating the Silver Surfer.

Image

Now granted, Silver Surfer had been greatly weakened at that moment during the Infinity Gauntlet storyline, but Doom has routinely punked the Silver Surfer.

Doctor Doom using mind transference, which could be done as a last resort in this matchup:

Image

Here's Doom completely reversing Vision's attack and then throwing down with Iron Man:

Image

Image

Here's Doctor Doom easily defeating Black Panther:

Image

Doom showing Blade why he's not impressed with his overrated Wesley Snipes movies:

Image

And here's Doom using sorcery to overpower a more current version of Iron Man than what's being used in this match:

Image

Image

Realizing they're evenly matched, Doom switches from science to sorcery and readies the Crimson Bands of Cytorrak and utterly turns the tables on Iron Man:

Image

Image

Image

You see, the above panels would be reason that Iron Man takes the Avengers into battle with him against Doctor Doom.

One last panel from the Infinity Gauntlet. Iron Man threatening Doom, and Doctor Doom has his arms spread in a clear "Whatever! I'll do what I want! Just bring it punk" gesture. [smilie=spidey_lol.gif]

Thrawn's made some very powerful arguments. If it was ONLY a battle of armor and weaponry, it would be very close.
But Doom's mastery of sorcery gives him the edge here. The scans of him using the Crimson Bands of Cytorrak against Iron Man, dismantling Iron Patriot's armor, and especially the mind transference were what did it for me. This particular version of Tony would have no defense against the mind-swipe.

My vote's going to Dr. Doom.

If she dies, does it mean anything beyond a brief sales spike because collectors/speculators think they'll be able to make a profit selling the book later? That is the question. Back when, Stan and company won our hearts and minds. I cared about Spider-Man and the other Marvel characters as though they were friends. I cared every time Aunt May got sick. That's what good creative work does."

Iron Man would be better off with the Bleeding Edge armor. That crap is crazy powerful.

It still wouldn't be enough to stop Doom, but Iron Man would be better off with it. Doom's still a master level sorcerer, and his armor isn't too shabby either. Iron Man himself admitted that if Doom wanted, he could easily design something superior to anything Tony Stark himself could come up with.

Doom is simply smarter than Iron Man; that's all there is to it. [smilie=spidey_shrug.gif] And to be clear, I like Iron Man.

In fact, I firmly believe that Doctor Doom should have been an Iron Man villain instead of an FF villain; or at the very least should have be used as an Iron Man villain more often.

Agreed. [smilie=spidey_cheers.gif]
Also that version of Tony had a built-in resistance to telepathic assault. It would have been a good counter to Doom's mind transference.

That's the danger of using two characters who have fought each other in the comics before; though I imagine there are a few arguments you can make.

Doctor Doom is victorious.

Michigan, you've automatically been losing matches because you haven't posted at least ONE argument for your champions. Before the fight even starts, you should have something ready in Word or your word processing program of your choice so you can just copy and paste at the first chance you get.

Sorry I didn't vote for this one. I would've voted for Doom anyway.

That is sage advice. I will prepare at least a basic argument before some matches if I suspect I won't have enough time during the match.

Also, keep in mind Agent Michigan, a basic argument just to guarantee you don't automatically forfeit can be something as simple as:

"Iron Man would win because he has immense experience as a hero, has beaten guys like the Hulk, Cap, and Spider-Man, and is one of the smartest people in the MU."

Something similar would have saved you a loss against Iron Patriot.

Doctor Doom is not happy with you right now.

*Doom glares at Two-Bit menacingly*
