Friendly Fire Fight Club #197 - 'Howl of the WARWOLVES!'

Image

"It is I, Bruce Lee, the deadliest man to have ever walked the Earth with the possible exception of John Wayne or George Berryman. The Gong of Conflict has once again been pounded upon - it is time to FIGHT!"

Image

"Recently Guyman442 challenged Spider-Girl, who accepted. Some controversy arose when Spider-Girl invoked the Venomaniac Corollary rule but then chose a Broadway musical as a combatant in a "Best Broadway Musical" fight. But the Commish kiboshed this use of the VC on the grounds that it didn't fit the criteria for a Fight Club match. So instead Spider-Girl went with a more conventional, regular match and chose one of DC's most formidable martial artists... BLACK CANARY!

Image

"In response, Guyman442 chose a longtime enemy of the X-Men and one of Marvel's resident bad girls... Raven Darkholme, aka MYSTIQUE!"

Image

"With the combatants chosen, George Berryman informs me that he has selected Shadowfang Keep as tonight's fight venue."

Image

"A 'dungeon instance' within the World of Warcraft MMORPG, Shadowfang Keep is a gloomy fortress tucked away in the Silverpine Forsest near the Worgen city of Gilneas. A lot has changed since the Cataclysm that affected the world of Azeroth, and Shadowfang Keep was no exception. But for tonight's fight club we're going to use the Shadowfang Keep of the pre-Cataclysm Azeroth... a Shadowfang Keep ruled with the dark magic of Archmage Argugal, an evil mage who commands a small army of werewolves, undead and - wait for it - undead werewolves. Tonight's fight will be a 'target rich' environment for both combatants as they will face not only each other but also all the evil Shadowfang Keep has to muster.

"The JLA's big bird against a mutant merc! Those are your choices! Who wins? Who loses? You decide. Vote NOW! Take us away, Elvis Presley!"

Mystique has this in the bag.
She's a shape shifter. She could easily come at Black Canary disguised as an easy undead kill, then change to herself. Giving her the element of surprise.
Also, she has guns and will have an easier time disposing of the undead because of it.

Are Mystique's guns resistant to being broken apart into pieces by a sonic attack strong enough to bring down Aztec temples?

Certainly not, however, I said nothing about using the guns on Black Canary. Those are for the zombies.

Without her guns she's a real good hand to hand combatant. Black Canary's a master combatant.

Black Canary is going to have to get closer to the undead to thoroughly take care of them. Her sonic scream doesn't turn around, does it? She'd have to keep turning. Mystique could go climb a tree and put a bullet through her head. Or blast her with an energy beam, or blow her up...
And you used the phrase "expert combatant".

Oh I'm glad you brought this up.

As I correctly pointed out in last season's first round Douglas Classic Black Canary/Symbiote Spidey battle... sound fills an area. Note that Robin is behind Black Canary in this panel. What's Robin doing?

Image

Image

So she can affect an entire area with, as her wiki states...

Canary Cry: possesses a metagene that gives her a potent sonic attack, able to damage and stun foes or objects, to the point of shattering metal.

So I've shown, clearly, how her screams can affect an area. But can she also direct it? Well sure she can.

Image

Now when she's in a massive ruins filled with undead and werewolves and a mutant morpher with guns... what do you think she's going to cut loose with? A massive area burst that can stun opponents or direct her power in a focused blast at a single undead and/or werewolf?

Guyman442 wrote:Mystique could go climb a tree and put a bullet through her head. Or blast her with an energy beam, or blow her up...

Ooo, a girl with a gun! Good thing Black Canary's never faced people with guns before, and... oh wait. She did that. For well over a decade in Birds of Prey. Guns that are going to break apart the minute she screams aren't going to scare her all that much. Guns are Tuesday for Black Canary.

Guyman442 wrote:And you used the phrase "expert combatant".

I did. It's what her wiki lists her as and she's a considerable opponent.

Black Canary's just way better. 8)

An example of both the Canary's scream breaking apart gun metal and the fact that her scream fills an area as evidenced, again, by Spoiler holding her ears behind Black Canary.

EDIT: Also note the force of the impact from the sound as well on her opponents here.

Dinah has two major strengths on her side:

1. Her fighting prowess and 2. her sonic cry.

1. Canary is probably one of the top 10 fighters of the DCU. She has impressed Lady Shiva (probably one of the top 5 fighters) and Babs has even said that Dinah could potentially defeat Batman in a fight.

2. Canary's cry is a great weapon. It is even said to have the strength to seriously incapacitate Wonder Woman. She has out-screamed Silver Banshee and knocked down Giganta with her cry.

I'm not sure about this. Dinah wasn't chosen as chairwoman of the JLA for nothing! She is smart and strategic. She would be able to figure out that something was wrong if Mystique transformed into a compatriot...especially if it were Babs! Remember, she killed 'Green Arrow' on her wedding night, realizing that it was Everyman in disguise.

Let me rephrase, Mystique could go climb a tree. Then, while Black Canary is fighting off zombies, she can put a bullet through her head.

Not an ally, an undead. One of the horde. Mystique could make herself seem like an easier target than she is.

How is Mystique going to evade werewolves when she can change her appearance but can't mask her scent? Or if she doesn't have any guns left over after Canary screams?

Guyman442 wrote:Not an ally, an undead. One of the horde. Mystique could make herself seem like an easier target than she is.

The Horde undead - the Forsaken - are not in any way allied with Arugal or the monsters found in Shadowfang Keep. In fact it's an main adventuring spot for the Forsaken. :)

He's covering his ears. However, he's not being damaged. This proves that while she could do some residual damage, she would have to keep turning if the undead were on all sides. And remember, we're dealing with Werewolves. I know enough about WoW to know that if your character gets bitten, they become one. Mystique has healing powers and would be able to fight that off. I don't think Black Canary can boast the same.

He's holding his ears (same as Spoiler in the other panel) specifically because she told him to do so before she screamed. And that panel, as well as the others above, do prove that her powers can fill an area omnidirectionally - not just focused in one direction or at one opponent. And she's not going to tell any undead, werewolves or Mystique to hold their ears. Heh. 8)

mystique does have a brain, though. And it's not currently hanging out of her skull. She understands the concept of ear covering.
