"It is I, Bruce Lee, the deadliest man to have ever walked the Earth with the possible exception of John Wayne or George Berryman. The Gong of Conflict has once again been pounded upon - it is time to FIGHT!"

Image

"This week tnr105 challenged Spideydude, who accepted. As his champion, Spideydude chose one of the mightiest combatants available in Fight Club... SUPERMAN!"

Image

"In response, tnr105 chose a Martian known for his extremely powerful mind as well as his Martian physique - the MARTIAN MANHUNTER!"

Image

"With the combatants chosen, George Berryman informs me that he has selected the Serengeti as tonight's fight venue."

Image

"Stretching out over 12,000 square miles across Tanzania and Kenya, the Serengeti is home to Africa's most colorful and dangerous wildlife. Lions, cheetahs, hyenas, cobras, crocodiles... they all engage in a continual hunt, chasing down gazelle, zebras, water buffalo and other prey. Elephants and giraffes also roam the plains."

"Man of Steel against the JLA's Big Brain! Those are your choices! Who wins? Who loses? You decide. Vote NOW! Take us away, Elvis Presley!"

While Supes and J'onn are on an equal playing field strength wise, J'onn could just be intangible the entire fight to a avoid Superman's attacks, and psychically turn hid brain into mush.

Forgot to post this earlier. The only thing Superman has that would give him the upper hand in the past is now ineffective; heat vision. Here's a quote from a PM conversation I had with George that explains it better.

As I was researching for my fight with Spideydude, I found an interesting tidbit on the DC Comics DB:

* Psychic Pyrophobia: The Martian Manhunter has a psychosomatic fear of fire. It is unknown what the source of this fear is, whether it is a personal fear or a cultural fear, but whichever it is, it is a paralytic fear with the Manhunter. Exposure to fire, causes him to lose his powers, and in the case of extreme fire, to lose his control over his biomorphic form. The Manhunter is more vulnerable in this form and can take damage in this vulnerable state.

He is now invulnerable to flames unless they are "flames of passion" or of some other "psychic significance".

http://dc.wikia.com/wiki/J%27onn_J%27on ... w_Earth%29

So will fire be listed a weakness on the Fight Card? I'm just curious as it may be valuable against Superman's heat vision.

No it won't be on his fight card as a weakness since it doesn't affect him anymore.

Okay :) I just didn't know if you already had a Martian Manhunter Fight Card prepped and I didn't want you to have to make a new one while I could just present the info in the thread. Thanks!

So yeah, J'onn not only has intangibility to help him avoid attacks, but his famous weakness is out of the picture. J'onn is just as strong as Superman, but he'd be able to end the fight even quicker by attacking Superman's mind. J'onn usually tries to quell fights through mediation, so I don't think he'd use his fists (though they would be effective) or even turn Clark's mind to jelly. Many times in the comics when Superman has been out of control (brainwashing, magic, or red kryptonite) J'onn just places Superman into a coma until the League can find a solution.

While I'm somewhat versed on New Superman (IE Post Infinate Crisis, not to be confused with Nu-Supes) I do wonder if he has is super intellect intact, as that would be the buffer against the mind based attack.

Pure endurance would be key, as MM can only alter is strength to Superman's levels for a short amount of time. I think that sustained attacks are such that Superman wins this.

I'll post more tonight when I get home.

Once again proving you're very smart [smilie=spidey_cheers.gif]

Just because Superman is super-intelligent, that doesn't mean he's more resistant to psychic attacks. J'onn has entered Superman's mind many times while coordinating with the Justice League and mentally linking them during a fight.

The thing is, if J'onn remains intangible the entire fight, there is no way for Superman to attack him. While they both have great strength and speed (and I'll even admit Superman's is probably higher) J'onn has several powers Superman doesn't. J'onn could easily take down Superman's in several ways:

-Cause Superman to hallucinate. He could alter Clark's perception of his surroundings. He could make Clark they were in Metropolis, and use his shape shifting abilities to make Superman think he is Lois or someone else he would never hurt, such as Ma or Pa Kent.

-Easily place Superman's mind under a deep sleep.

-Fry Superman's mind leaving him a drooling catatonic mess for the rest of his life. J'onn's powerful enough to take down the Spectre. Y'know, God's hand of vengeance.
Image

Also if we are to go straight up fisticuffs...

-J'onn has taken down Ultraman, Supe's evil Earth-3 counterpart.
Image

-Is just as strong if not stronger than Superman. Has taken on big names like The Legion of Doom, Doomsday, the JLA, and Superman himself.

I was already leaning toward J'onn, because he could either phase through Supes' attacks, or shapeshift around them, while attacking Superman through his mind. The ONLY thing I was wary of was J'onn's weakness to fire...But since that's no longer a factor, there's no doubt in my mind.

Martian Manhunter, all the way.

"Whether Aunt May dies or not isn't the question. If she dies, does it mean anything beyond a brief sales spike because collectors/speculators think they'll be able to make a profit selling the book later? That is the question. Back when, Stan and company won our hearts and minds. I cared about Spider-Man and the other Marvel characters as though they were friends. I cared every time Aunt May got sick. That's what good creative work does."

I'm leaning heavily toward MM, but would like to hear some Superman arguments.

I wasn't aware Martian Manhunter was so formidable. I'll go ahead and throw a vote at him, but if there are any really good Superman arguments made, I could change my vote. But Tnr is doing a bang up job in this thread so far.

I hate voting against Superman though. I thought Martian Manhunter was probably going to be a mistake against Superman, but I've been pleasantly surprised so far. Congratulations Tnr. Very clever. [smilie=spidey_thumbs.gif]

Damn, looks like I should have used J'onn against Supes in the Douglas Classic Final.

At first I crapped my pants when Zach chose Superman, but I hoped my pick would be formidable against Superman. So far I'm right. 8) As for my reasoning and arguments, I really did my research in this one. I've had only one win this season if you don't count ties, so I knew I need to step it up a bit. Before the match began I even PM'd George if the weakness to fire plays in here. It does not. 8)

I hear a 10 vote swing will not occur. Sadly, I have to go to work, I'll do my best to get a proper responce.

Remember Zach, under the new rules if you don't present your case you forfeit the match, even if you manage to rack up some more votes.

I never realized Martian Manhunter's power potential until I was doing the research for his Fight Card.
