I'm marking my calender!

Actually, I'll probably wait for a paperback because that's how I roll. But I am really excited!

I usually wait for paperback as well but I think this one is going to be an exception. I'm not sure I can wait.

Also I just reread A Game of Thrones (something I never do) in anticipation of the new series. Wow, I forgot how great that book is. It blew me away again. What I really noticed was how all the main characters really interacted. In later books they all seem to have gone their seperate ways so you miss that a bit.

I really like to own the books I read. I like seeing them on my shelf everyday to remind me what I've put in my brain. I like my physical space to be a reflection of my mental space.

I couldn't find an actual Game of Thrones book thread, could we change this one into one?
Because the finale convinced me to shell out some money and buy book 3 & 4 of the series and I've been loving Book 3 so far, especially the Tyrell family. Can't wait to see the Queen of Thorns in the show.

The first book came today for me. I'm not sure when I'll have the chance to read it amongst other things I'm reading but I'm looking forward to it.

I'm seriously considering rereading the last 3 books before ADWD's comes out but I'm not sure I can wait to read it! Amazing how much more I picked up the second time around on AGOT's

A few chapters into A Game of Thrones, maybe this is the TV show's fault but I really don't like Danerys being 14. It seems way too young but maybe this is because she was portrayed as a young adult in the show. The fact her brother grabs her breasts and Martin describes her bathing herself in detail doesn't sit too right with me at her age. It's something that is bothering me slightly but I'm sure there were others in the opposite position of mine when Emilla Clare was cast as an elder Danerys.

All the kids were aged up three years from the books exactly for the reason you're stating. You certainly couldn't have the scenes you had with Dany if she's 14.

As for the books, Martin has stated in the past that, yes the kids are young, but in medievel times children at these ages had hard lives and bad things happened to them. I think he wanted to portray that.

Here's a spoiler free review of A Dance with Dragons.

http://www.tor.com/blogs/2011/07/winter ... oiler-free

In short, here's probably what everyone wants to hear: "And the question you all want answered right now, when I’ve been lucky enough to get my copy two weeks ahead of you, is “Was it worth the wait?”

To that I can only say: You’re going to love it."

Can't wait!

30% off all the books at my book store.
Got the entire set, almost done Storm of Swords.
Anybody made any progress into Dance of Dragons yet?

I picked it up when it came out and got a similar discount at B&N.

I'm just finishing up The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest, then I have a decision to make. I really want to dive right into Dance, but I'm also tempted to re-read the last three books first. I re-read AGoT's before the series and I picked up so much more the second time around. So I'm not sure which route to go.

Also, so far the reviews I've read for Dance have been extremely positive. Good to hear.
