L's death is a really shocking moment. In the anime it's pretty obvious, in the manga that shit comes out of nowhere, and fast. In Death Note: Relight it's even worse. Light actually crawls on L'#s grave and cackles maniacally as Ryuk looks on, freaked out. The series takes a slight dip from this point, only because Mello & near are pretty un-interesting characters. You should like Mikami though. He's one of my favourite characters.

Mikami was cool until he became a complete tool at the very end.

But yeah, I read the manga and it's way more abrupt than in the anime, which telegraphs it.

The translation from manga to anime always looks so seamless but I keep having to remind myself sometimes they branch off from the original storylines just as much as American comics tend to do! Maybe I really should have checked out the manga first instead of the anime. [smilie=spidey_shrug.gif]

Next time I'll listen though. (Just as I did with Berserk, which I am about to read).

I'd like to recommend my favorite Manganime. The one I apparently forgot I watched because it's more than an anime to me.

Case Closed/ Detective Conan.

The main story feels generic at best, but hell you just gotta love it.
MOST of the time the mysteries are well done. I have been a HUGE fan of mystery since I was a small child.
I love the fact that they give you a chance to solve it on your own. Not too many mysteries let you do that these days.

It's really a shame that this series didn't take off with an American audience like it has in other regions. They are on their 19th season in Japan currently.
However they were pretty much screwed over by Adult Swim with the time slot they had. (After 1 A.M.)

Conan's a good show, it just loses points for being SO formuliac, and it's the type of manga/anime where you want to see the conclusion but are never gonna get it or it'll be dragged out like Smallville. I was dead into Cased Closed until I realized it wasn't gonna go anywhere. It's still fun though.

Trigun is great fun. I just got finished watching episode 5 and damn it was fun. Vash is an interesting character and far from what I assumed he would be. It's nice to see that this show can juggle comedy with drama, especially in the 5th Episode. Interesting plot, good characters and a pretty cool opening theme.

ALSO;

Today's Moment of the Day - Gotega is Born

That's the perfect way to put it! [smilie=spidey_cheers.gif]
They've really locked themselves into a creative jail here. There isn't really much they can do with the main plot.
It's kind of sad....

Jimmy/Shinici Is a very good character.
I think the show would benefit from returning him to his original form.

Word of warning. Don't get too attached to the humor. Eventually the series drops it for a much more serious plot.
Ironically Vash is currently my favorite Anime character. (Not my favorite series though)
I'm pretty curious though. What are everyone's top 5 Anime/Manga?
If I had to name my top 5 anime of all time. They would be:

5. Trigun
4. YuYu Hakusho (Perhaps the most completely satisfying Anime I've ever watched. Definitely had the best cliff hangers.)
3. Cowboy Bebop (Still my favorite Adult Anime series to date)
2. Dragonball Z (The best action series ever made.)
1. Case Closed (I'm a mystery fanboy whore. So I definitely expect alot of folks to disagree with me...AND yes even I complain about the flaws but still love it to death)

Bleach is climbing up to tie with YuYu Hakusho. Only time will tell.
Only recently have I gotten back into Manga so I'm still building a favorite list.

I remember liking One Piece alot. I think the Anime is crap though. arrrgh 4kids! *shakes fist*

This. Its like 50+ volumes and still going. That in itself isn't necesarilly a bad thing, Berserk is at 35 volumes and still going, but its a continuous story. Conan/Case Closed is just the same thing every week. And yeah its fun, but I want to see Shinichi get his body back at some point here.

Anyway, watched the first volume of Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood. Despote following the same territory as the first series (as the both follow the manga up to a point) its till enjoyable and gets points for being more faithful. My one major complaint is that constant use of SD/chibi as it feels out of place and forced when it comes up, and its usually over so-and-so made another Ed is short joke, which gets old real quick. Currently I have the original Bubblegum Crisis OVA's and the recent Golgo 13 series checked out. I'll post my thoughts after I've watched them.

@Styleshift: I can see that the humour is already beginning to ooze away. The fifth episode really does re-instate a more serious attitude to the series, just how long the humour lasts, I don't know.

That moment is interesting in the manga. For one, Freeza's guts are literally spilling out. Secondly, the look on Goku's face after Freeza "dies" is one of very conflicted feelings. It's really good artwork.

Yeah, I really loved how Goku was used in this arc in the Manga, perhaps more so than the Anime.

Berserk....

Image

Just got finished with reading volume 3.

I have a pretty good feeling where Donovan (No, not you Donomark) Is going in Volume 4.
Let's just put it this way. If you cannot stomach story telling even more graphic than Robert Kirkman's "The Walking Dead".

This Manga is not the one for you...

I do have to ask ONE thing Berserkfury...
Does Guts ever gain any character development?

I just popped in the game I mentioned earlier and he is TOTALLY different from what I've seen in the first chapter of the manga.

He gets a TON of Character development. It develops slowly over the Golden Age as it shows you what made Guts the raging Black Swordsman that he is in the first 3 volumes. After volume 14, he grows even more, but it is a gradual process as he learns that he can't be all hatred and rage all the time and has to learn control. It is kind of subtle though.

I warn you, you are completely correct about Donovan (not Donomark).
