Ultimate Spider-Man Animated Series

Postby stillanerd » Tue Apr 13, 2010 11:34 am

Here's the news bulletin with the details:

LOS ANGELES/CANNES: Marvel Animation is set to deliver a new animated Spider-Man series in the fall of 2011, with Disney XD as the primary worldwide television partner.

Ultimate Spider-Man will chronicle Peter Parker's evolution from a naïve teen hotshot to a true hero who comes to terms with his origins and abilities.

“Ultimate Spider-Man will be a unique journey exploring our favorite web-slinger as he teams up with other fan favorite Marvel Super Heroes in never before seen stories with a new life filled with great challenges, new friends, intense action and character growth," said Eric S. Rollman, the president of Marvel Animation.

I'm afraid this may mean Spectacular Spider-Man is not being renewed, unfortunately.

I wonder if this is going to be aimed at a very young demographic.

intense action and character growth

My first reaction to Marvel for using the words "character growth" in regards to Spider-Man is to say "You have no right. Go fuck yourselves." Curious to see how this will develop.

My only regret if Spec is not renewed is no more Venom and that they never got to Roderick Kingsley. I didn't watch it regularly because Wiseman pissed me off with the shit he pulled on the Shocker. But the Venom episodes were very good stuff.

Note the bolded part.
Reads to me like: "Mary Jane WHO?"
Proudly #2 on Anti-QMD list.
#1 on the list is Peter Parker. No duh!

I'm now going to refuse to watch this out of principle, it'd require to have a miracle for this to be anywhere near as good as spectacular.

"That's whacky nuts."

I might blow my brains out five minutes into the first episode ...

This sucks if it means SSM is cancelled.

At the very least, another season just to wrap things up would be nice.

I can't wait to see Bendis-dialogue adapted for the screen. Maybe thats why their going with USM, there will be so much talking they won't have to animate much. 8)

This is such BS. You throw out a great show to basically start over with the exact same premise. Everything used to describe the new show in the quote other than the teamup aspect sounds like what Spec was already doing. Why start over and risk it sucking when you have a show that works that you could so easily continue? Damn you TV execs. How F-ing stupid can you be? Sounds like they heard Batman Brave and the Bold was successful and decided to copy it with Spidey.

That exchange is funny cause it's true.

Heh - 'decompressed' animation. It'd look like those early Marvel cartoons where they just showed a comic panel and made the mouth move. Once or twice an episode something might actually move.

Now, instead of stretching out a three issue story over nine issues they'll be stretching out to fill a whole season. "Writing for the TPB" will become "Writing for the DVD box set." And that DVD box set - what rate will the Bendis Tax be? 8)
