Rush Nominated for Rock and Roll Hall of Fame

Postby jpd13 » Mon Oct 08, 2012 12:41 pm

Not that the Hall of Fame really means crap, but it's nice to see Rush get some long deserved recognition. Long over due. Clockwork Angels is one of their best albums in a long time. Maybe since Moving Pictures.

Yep, Wings is another one that absolutely belongs there. The Hall of Fame really is a joke.

I love Rush.

Besides having a member who is primarily famous for other projects, what makes Wings Hall of Fame material?

Have you listened to Clockwork Angels yet? What do you think? I'm going to see them on the 20th in NJ, can't wait.

Well what is Rock and Roll Hall of Fame criteria? I don't think it's clearly defined at all and if it is, I sure as heck don't know what it is. To me, bands that have had a long career (gotta count for something), have been extremely influential to other artist and had commercial success certainly should qualify (Rush). I'm no where near a Wings expert, but they were hugely popular and influential in the 70's. They also had a nice 10 year or so, run. I remember hearing them on the radio constantly in the 70's and to me their sound is one one of the defining sounds of that era. They also had numerous top 10 hits (Live and Let Die, Band on the Run, With a little Luck, Jet, etc, etc.). To me, that would be enough to earn a place.

Their OVER AMERICA tour broke attendance records.

For many years "Mull of Kintyre" was the biggest selling UK single of all time, taking that spot from The Beatles.

"Band On The Run" won some Grammys and the album was number one on multiple occasions throughout the period of a year.

BILLBOARD counts them as the biggest act (chart wise) in the 70's alongside Bee Gees and Elton John.

Rush is one of those bands that I can tell is extremely talented but I just have never enjoyed. The lead singers voice has always bugged me. I can dig the Tom Sawyer song on occasion.

This is a very typically reaction to Rush. I think Geddy's voice is either a love it or hate it type thing. Obviously I fall on the side of loving it.

Also, I'm reading the book Clockwork Angels based on the new album and Peart's lyrics and it's pretty good.

Bertone - Wings probably belongs. What do they have, like 20 top ten singles and a few platinum albums? Although to critics they are anathema, they had some great singles and even some of the album cuts are good. The concert movie shows them to be an excellent live band. As a younger man I always considered John the weighty artist and Paul the pop music "Brill Building" wunderkind. As I've grown older and less cynical, I have a greater appreciation for Paul.

I met her through a Dream Theater cover band.

The rock and roll hall of fame is a Joke. It’s a private club with a very impressive name. In fact it should be renamed to Rock n Roll Farce of Shame, which would be much more accurate. The nomination process is controlled by a few individuals who are not musicians and insist on reflecting their tastes rather than the views of the rock world as a whole. And when there are people like Jann Wenner who publicly state things like “I hate KISS and will do whatever it takes to keep them out” when KISS is obviously one of, if not the most successful American Rock bands ever, just goes to show how illegitimate this club is.
It’s a shame.. Someone ought to take this great idea of a Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and legitimately do it right.
