Back in March of 1997, the action animation block of cartoons on Cartoon Network was created. It was called Toonami. I began watching it around the Summer of 1997.
When I got older, I partook in that of The Midnight Run.
I followed as TOM and company went through the different events that would change the outlook of the Absolution.
Then, on September 20, 2008, TOM and his crew submitted their final transmission. I wasn't aware of the event until almost a week afterward. I wrote a short goodbye, and shared here, on the Spider-Man Crawlspace Message Board and that was that.
Until this passed Saturday, March 31, 2012.
At 11:59PM, [adult swim] tweeted, "#toonami". Cartoon Network's late night programming was taken over by TOM. It was meant as an April Fool's joke, but, it caught fire. Nostalgic 90's fans like myself took in the familiar sights and sounds of the old ship, and her captain, TOM. Then we took to Twitter, thanking [adult swim] for the trip down memory lane. Then, on April 2nd, the fire spread.
"@adultswim: Want it back? Let us know. #BringBackToonami"
Almost as quickly as it was there, #BringBackToonami was trending. And apparently, it was trending for a while. Today, roughly 8 hours before this posting, this tweet showed up in my timeline:
"@adultswim: #BringBackToonami We've heard you. Thank you for your passion and interest - stay tuned."
So, now, 3 years and 7 months after mourning Toonami's departure, it appears to have been resurrected.
I plan to heed the direction given by [adult swim] and 'stay tuned.'
