So the last chapter I read was a brutal kick to the balls, still in Storm of Swords
Huge spoiler....
They killed Robb and Catelyn in one strike!
And Arya was right there. UGH!

Never expected Arya to meet up with them again, but I figured they'd kill The Hounds, not...
Damn you Martin... too pissed to read now, but i must go on...

Ah yes,
The Red Wedding. One of the biggest shockers in the series!

And the aftermath, the stuff Tyrion doesn't tell Sansa....
I'm really starting to hate nearly everyone in this series.

This will be brutal on TV. If Ned's death made an uproar, this will drive people wild.

Finally done Storm of Swords, now I'm on to Feast of Crows, which is an ironic title, since Jon Snow isn't a POV character in it. Still confused how they divided this and Dance of Dragons....

Overall I enjoyed it, but it was also kind of dissapointing and a lot of people are ticked. Its getting fairly negative reviews on Westeros.org (official fan site).

Just started it. It seems like most critics are raving about it, yet most fan reaction I've read is luke warm. Odd

Most of the people I've talked to who have finished it aren't happy. At least one friend said he's about ready to give up. While I liked it, there are a lot of problems. The pacing is not very good, we get very little resolution to anything, with the exception of two threads the book felt like it mostly went nowhere, and I think he wrote himself into a corner and is going to have to use a Deus Ex Machina to get himself out.

As much as I still like the series, its certainly fallen a few notches in my opinion. At least JV Jones she has put her books out at a relatively consistent pace, each one has moved the plot forward and there is only one more book to go. By contrast Martin recently said he may have to extend the series to 8 books.

My dad just finished this, he was incredibly dissapointed. And the more I reflect on it, so am I.

OK, finally finished A Dance with Dragons (Man, having a 2 1/2 year old daughter makes it a little tougher to find time to read!). Overall I really enjoyed it. I feel like it's a worthy entry in the series. I've heard the complaints that several others have mentioned, mainly that the book's in need of editing, nothing really happens, it has pacing problems, etc.. And although I see what everyone is saying, none of these really bothered me. To me, it was still vintage George RR Martin.

I do consider this series to be of the absolute highest quality so I wouldn't necessarily call this a knock on ADWD, but here is how I would rank the 5 books so far:

1) A Game of Thrones (How can I not put this book first. It introduced me to this world.....and it had Ned freakin' Stark in it!)
2) A Storm of Swords
3) A Clash of Kings
4) A Dance with Dragons
.
.
.
5) A Feast of Crows (although I'm starting to think I haven't given this book a fair shot)

Ahh, now the long wait for The Winds of Winter. Two books left to see if George can "stick the landing".

I think the first 3 books are the highest qulaity. Feast and Dance less so. One thing I want is consistency, and Martin is starting to change/ignore the rules that he set in his series, and that drives me nuts.
