If you recall waaaaaaay back at the first episode of BtO, I said that Barbara Gordon's theme song HAS to be 'Unbreakable' by Fireflight! In the most recent anniversary show, my good friend Zaius asked me what I thought was Stephanie Brown's theme song. I was unsure at the time, but he offered Paramore's 'Emergency,' which I agreed with For the next few episodes, I am going to have some candidates for Stephanie Brown's theme song. What I am asking you here is to give me some ideas. Here are the ones I have so far:
'Emergency' by Paramore 'I Will Not Bow' by Breaking Benjamin 'Attack' by 30 Seconds to Mars 'Comfortably Numb' by Pink Floyd
I will then have a poll to decide which one everyone thinks works the best. If this works out, I will do this again for Cassandra and, perhaps, other Bat-centric characters!

And at the end you can pretend she's hugging Batman, Nightwing and Robin (Tim Drake, not that wannabe Damian horseshit) instead of Ed Asner, Gavin MacLeod and Ted Knight.
Nearly flew off a treadmill when I found what I think is Stephanie Brown's perfect theme song. That song is "Look at Me Now" by DJ Jeesy.
Here's the Nightcore (Morgana) version which I prefer over the original.
And here's the original version:
Now, why I think this matches Steph. I think this song addresses how much she's changed from her early years in costume. Bruce, Babs, Dick, Tim, and even Alfred doubted her abilities and capability as a crime-fighter. Bruce gave her a chance and fired her each time. Hell, him firing her from the Robin mantle was the tipping point that led to the eruption of the Gotham War Games and her "death" at the hands of Black Mask. Before Tim saw her in action as the new Batgirl, he always said that she didn't belong in the vigilante world of crime-fighting. I think Dick still thinks she'll just get in the way, but then he's a dick so that's to be expected. Babs wasn't a fan of her during her Spoiler days, and, at first, wasn't too keen on her taking up the Batgirl mantle either. The only exception to all this is Cassandra Cain who, when she finally gave Steph a chance and let her into her world, NEVER gave up on her. Or turned her back on her. Ever. Too bad the same can't be said about Steph with Cass now. But I digress.
The meaning of this song in relation to Steph is especially apparent when you think about that "Bruce Wayne: The Road Home - Batgirl" one-shot. That outstanding issue should convince most, if not all doubters of Stephanie Brown's capability and right to be Batgirl. Hell, I was convinced and I was probably one of the biggest bloody doubters out there, and that's saying something! All in all, it's like what the first line of the chorus says, "Look at me now, I'm stronger than before."
As what my ex-girlfriend would say, "Hold the phone! I just had another idea!" Yes, everyone, I have found a song that I think is an absolute 100% PERFECT MATCH for Stephanie Brown! Maybe I'm acting a bit carried away and maybe it's the venti breakfast blend I just had from Starbucks--actually, it's probably that--, but it's such a perfect match I just don't know why I didn't think of it earlier! Seriously, anyone with any knowledge of Steph's history would listen to this, nod and go "Hell yeah, this is DEFINITELY Steph's theme song!" By the way, to all anime fans, the First Press Edition: Season 1: Part 1 Box Set of Kuroshitsuji (aka Black Butler) from FUNImation is finally out today!
You can judge it by watching the official music vid below:
And for those who are interested, here's the official animated music video for "Black Butler".
Here are a few reasons explaining why this song should be chosen as Stephanie Brown's theme song. [list=] [*]One of, if not THE defining moment in Stephanie Brown's history was when fans, including yours truly, banded together and outright DEMANDED that Stephanie either gets proper respect for her "death" by putting up her Robin costume in a memorial at the Batcave and acknowledge that she was indeed without question Robin OR BRING HER BACK!!! DC actually listened and brought her back! Stephanie's death was staged by Dr. Thompson and was ALIVE! [*]The first verse describes Steph's time as Spoiler. This is especially true with the first two lines: "Nothing I say comes out right [So true, even Alfred got quite annoyed with her big mouth]/ I can't love without a fight [Tim Drake. 'Nuff said.]. [*]Chorus pretty much describes...well, it describes Steph and her struggles as a young, still-learning costumed crime-fighter. I think the lines: "Between the good and bad is where you'll find me, reaching for heaven." describes her struggle to get better and better until she's up there amongst the ranks of the top tier superheroes, and fighting and doing what's right for the sake of all that is good. And then for the line "I will fight, and I'll sleep when I die.", she actually said something like that in Batgirl #4: [*One of my personal favorite quotes.] [*]Second verse: Her love life. Her first boyfriend got her pregnant and then left her. Tim literally kicked her aside and pretty much broke her heart. And then there's the last lines of the verse plus the first line of the chorus: "When I'm having a bad day, I would rather stay in bed, but I know theres a reason/I'm alive." Yes, she is alive because her fans stood up and said that she's too badass of a girl to just kill off like some two-bit no-name! [*]Third verse/Bridge: "When I'm bored to death at home," [*she'd rather be out on patrol]; "When he won't pick up the phone," [Tim Drake during Bruce's disappearance]; "When I'm stuck in second place," [She probably will NEVER surpass Cassandra Cain's skills as Batgirl]; "Those regrets I can't erase." [All of the mistakes she's done in the past, such as jump-starting the Gotham City War Games]; Only I can change the end, Of the movie in my head, There's no time for misery, I won't feel sorry for me. [Why she's still in costume patrolling the dangerous streets of Gotham, doing it all with a smile on her face, and convinced that she has found her calling fighting crime as the new Batgirl!] [/list] And there you have it, folks! Even if this doesn't make the cut, I hope it would be at least an honorable mention.
@LadySpider: Hell yeah! Another great choice! This song was one of the reasons why I picked up her single, Kimi ga Irukara, on my last trip to Japan. It's a great song to run with. *HIGH FIVE!* J-Rock/J-Pop fans FTW Looks like we have some great theme song contenders in the ring!
I'd like to go through the songs individually each episode and begin voting once I go through all the contenders. Then have a summation episode (bits of each song) and announce the winner. Hopefully this will be Spring, but I could always double up on songs if people want it to be over with!
