Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions Official Thread

Postby spidertour02 » Fri Nov 06, 2009 10:58 am

Not sure where this would go, so I put it in a new thread.

The next Spider-Man game is now official. Activision mentioned it is coming out next year in a financial Q&A session. Unlike the previous speculation based on leaked financial outlooks, this is the first official word on the game (despite the fact that everybody knew it was coming).

Once again, though, there are no details beyond the fact that it exists. Another Call of Duty game is coming next year as well, and it's in Treyarch's rotation year, so it's pretty unlikely that Treyarch will make the next Spidey game. We have already lamented the senseless demise of Shaba Games, which is now even more senseless given that Activision mentioned in that same Q&A that their earnings were better than expected. This means that the 2010 Spider-Man game is either going to be developed by Vicarious Visions or by a studio that hasn't worked on the property before.

We can post more stuff about the game as it becomes known in this thread.

Interesting. Waiting on more information. Aside from MUA2 I had heard that one of the games they had slated for release was a sequel to Marvel Nemesis. Any word on that?

This is only wishful thinking, but I think it would be interesting, assuming they still exist, if NeverSoft had another go at Spider-Man.

O, please no...I did not enjoy that game! If it was done better, perhaps? I remember when Sony was making a Marvel fighting game but it got canceled...

I really wonder what this mystery Spider-Man game is...

NeverSoft is making the Guitar Hero games now. Since there's probably 32 Guitar Hero games coming out next year, they'd probably be too busy. :P

I wasn't too fond of it either. It had lots of potential. It just needed another installment to improve upon the game engine. I had heard maybel it was last year that a sequel had been greenlit. Maybe that has fallen by the wayside now. I won't be losing any sleep over it in anycase.

The Thing kicked all kinds of ass in that game though. And Venom.

Another reason that Guitar Hero is evil.

Re: "The 2010 Spider-Man Game" Official Thread

Postby spidertour02 » Sun Mar 14, 2010 9:52 am

There have been RUMORS that the new Spider-Man game is going to be unveiled very soon. According to these rumors, the game is written by Dan Slott and will be developed by Beenox Studios, the development house behind games based on Bee Movie and Monsters vs. Aliens.

Plus ... CHRISTOPHER DANIEL BARNES!!!

If this is true, I have to say that I have mixed feelings. Beenox isn't a studio with a long (or good) track record -- they've mostly been a port house -- and Spider-Man needs a big effort. I hope those guys and gals are up to the challenge ...

EDIT: Apologies to poster Jack Bauer, who already posted this news. I didn't see your post first, but I think you deserve some credit for the find! :)

I really hope Dan Slott focused more on writing the story for the game than the comics!
It sounds like Activision really made an attempt this time.

Let's just hope they've had enough development time this time around. [smilie=spidey_clap.gif]

Well, Marvel has really moved to have game companies use their in-house writing talent. Marc Guggenheim wrote the game for X-Men Origins: Wolverine, Matt Fraction wrote the upcoming game for Iron Man 2, and now Slott has written this new Spider-Man game. I think this new direction is Marvel-prompted in that sense.

Bendis wrote the story for Ultimate Spider-man. (Which I liked)
Brian Reed wrote the Web of Shadows story. (Which was pretty lame IMO.)
Marc Guggenheim did a decent job with Origins, although the missions in Africa felt so repetitive and ultimately led to me returning the game to Blockbuster early.
I haven't been enjoying Slott's spin on Spider-man in Amazing, but as long as Peter Parker knows right from wrong in the game. I'm looking forward to see what he has in store for us gamers!

[EDIT] I just want to add that current ASM Peter Parker could fill the role in a Grand Theft Auto game.

The game now has a name -- Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions.

The next issue of GamePro will have details.

EDIT: Here's the cover. The title is mentioned in the blurbs at top right.

Brian Reed was a writer on Ultimate Spider-Man, working for Activision at the time. In fact, that's how he and Bendis became friends, which is how Reed got into comics. Just more proof that it's about who you know, and not about talent.
