While i grew up on TAS, I have only one wqord to say

SPECTACULAR
SPECTACULAR SPIDER-MAN!

It was the best media interpetation of the character outside of the comics (and te most accurate) that I have EVER seen

I have to agree. I love the 90s cartoon and have a lot of nostalgia for it as what I grew up on, but even I have to admit that Spectacular Spider-Man was just the better show.

I agree Kevin except for one thing, it's the '60's show that has the nostalgia for me and what I grew up on....

IMO, Spectacular Spider-Man has been the best Spidey cartoon ever made. The only way it could have been better was to have different animation (I prefer the '90's animation). It's really ashame that Weisman is not going to be able to tell the stories he wanted to tell. I remember listening to him on the podcast. He had some great ideas he was going to do including the making the series darker as Peter got older and telling stories like the death of Gwen Stacey.

Spider-Man: TAS is probably my favourite animated series. SSM ran it pretty close though.

The 90's series was my gateway drug into Spidey comics and Marvel characters. I remember being surprised early on that the series wasn't a panel for panel adaptation of the comics!

The series drew me in with it's continuity. Other shows I watched at the time didn't have long running plot lines and the events of one episode rarely effected the events of the next. Status quo changes were made....this was all pretty revolutionary for meat a young age! I know there are other cartoons from this time period and before that did this, but I hadn't seen them.

The series had it's faults....ohh boy did it...but it brought in MANY elements from the comics.

Spectacular Spider-Man is a much better show, and could've gone MANY places had it not been canceled, but the 90's show will always have a special place in my heart. I still hear Christopher Daniel Barnes when I read the comics...

It's hard for me to say which is better, TAS or Spectacular. On one hand, the quality of Spec was superior while it lasted, but it barely got going before it was canceled. TAS, on the other hand, had way more flaws, worse animation, and worse writing, it was still a solid show and was able to cover a lot more ground.

My thoughts exactly--it certainly has flaws, but it's still my big intro to Spider-Man, so I can't help but have a bit of nostalgia for it. :)

I have more nostalgia and fondness for the earlier animated shows before the 90s, but the older I get, the more I love that show, the same thing apply to almost everything Spider-Man, that comes out with being a Die-Hard-Spidey-Geek

So far no show tops the truly SPECTACULAR animated series, it's dead on, got great things perfected from the comics, some elements remind me with the animated shows before the 90s one, gotta be my favorite Spidey Series, only if the arts was as great as "Wolverine & The X-Men", it might have been better, at least everyone who worked on that series is a Spidey geek

Re: Spider-Man The Animated Series!

I remember watching this show and thinking it was okay, but I was in high school at the time and spoiled on BTAS. I never really liked the way they drew Peter (he looked like Robert Redford!), or that horrible yellow sweater-blue jeans-red cowboy boots outfit they drew Mary Jane in (How on earth did she get work as a model dressed like THAT?!?) but the series had it's moments, and I'm glad kids at the time liked it as much as they did; it more than did it's job in that regard.

What was my favorite Spidey Cartoon? Hard to say. Spec was awesome, I really liked Amazing Friends, But I think my heart will always belong to the cartoon that introduced me to the ol' webhead; the 67 "Spider-Man" cartoon. if nothing else, it definitely had the best theme song...
