Favorite Batman Film

Postby Robert Bell » Tue Apr 20, 2010 3:28 pm

Hey guys and gals I want to know what is you favorite Batman film. It can be any one of you choosing live-action or animated. Personally I will always love Batman: Mask of the Phantasm. Everytime I watch that film I feel the same joy and excitement. And unlike Batman the movie it holds up to my standards.

The Dark Knight. Followed by Batman Begins and the 1989 Batman.

Really liked Sub Zero, Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker and Mask of the Phantasm. Obviously Begins and Dark Knight kick equally as much ass.

Batman Mask of the Phantasm gets my vote, followed closely by Tim Burton's Batman. I keep hearing people say that it doesn't hold up today, but I'd like to know why they say that. To me the models shots, the fact that it was shot on studio back lots like the old timey Hollywood films, and the overall artistic vision of Tim Burton all combine to give it a real timeless comic book feel. I love it. It was my first real introduction to Batman beyond the Super-Friends. I've been a fan ever since. I still remember watching this in theaters the first time.

I'd throw Dark Knight, Begins, Batman Returns, Return of the Joker and up next.

The only bad thing about Tim Burton's Batman was the Joker's weird fixation on Prince music. Keaton was a surprisingly good Batman. Batman Returns wasn't that bad either. The ending was wacky with rocket penguins and Catwoman actually having nine lives.

Another vote for Mask of the Phantasm, the story is excellent, the art superb, and with ta great dark atmosphere.

In no particular order here are my other favorite Batman films: Dark Knight, Return of the Joker, Batman Begins, Gotham Knight, Batman, Batman Returns, and the 60's Batman film, what can I say I grew up on reruns of the Bat parody and still find it hilarious.
With great power there must also come great responsibility.

Top 3 are Batman Begins, TDK, and Mask of the Phantasm.

I also really like Return of the Joker, but honestly I don't count that since it's more about Terry.

Batman (1989). I feel that its closest in tone to the comics. Before Don smacks me, I would point out that I still love Returns, the two Nolan films and the animated ones. My favorite of the animated is Sub-Zero because Mr. Freeze is my favorite Batman villain.

I don't know if this counts (since technically it was from Superman TAS), but the VHS of The Superman/Batman Movie was my all time favorite as a kid. I still love it. I also really liked Batman and Robin... but now, not as much. With the upcoming Batman: Under the Red Hood, it may just creep up there with Superman/Batman, and the Nolan movies.

I thought I was going to surprise everyone by saying "Mask of the Phantasm", but I see I'm among like-minded people here. This pleases me.

The Dark Knight is my favorite because of its overall thoughtfulness and also Ledger's unbelievable performance. It may not match the comics perfectly, but it is a perfect interpretation of how the Batman characters would work in the "real" world.

Batman Begins is my second favorite. Most of what I like about the Dark Knight is there, only it doesn't have a truly great villain and the fight scenes aren't great.

Mask of the Phantasm is third. It's a great, dark story. I like Nolan's films a little better but I almost put this above Begins.

Batman Returns is fourth. I think Burton's aesthetic vision comes through a little better here than it did in 1989, and it has a great freakish tone that makes it very unique and dark.

From there it goes:

Batman
Sub-Zero
Batman Forever
Batman and Robin

Though, if I had to choose between watching Forver and watching Batman and Robin, I might go with Batman and Robin because it goes into so bad it's funny territory.
