Just wrong. Why are they trying to appeal to the GILF's acting like MILF loving crowd?

Hmm...thoughts on episode 3, guys? Literally just seen it, and here are mine:

Plot: Just stupid. Seriously? They tackle Doctor freaking Doom in their first mission?

The Amazing Friends: Starting to like this team a bit. Nova is written a poor man's Johnny Storm(And it should have been him. It's not that hard,I mean, everyone in the MU lives in New York.) but it's still pretty fun to see him and Peter butt heads. White Tiger being the one who doesn't take any of their shit is amusing. Danny Rand spouting "wisdom" is...all right at times. Not really seeing Luke Cage stand out yet.

Voice Acting: Drake Bell is toning down his voice a little bit, and I'm really liking it. Maurice LeMarche as Doctor Doom didn't really work for me.

Moments that Brought the Funny: I really liked the jetpack gag. Agent Coulson "going native" was hilarious.

Okay, that's a bit too much: The thermometer bit with Nick Fury. Spidey hearing Nick Fury's scoldings as just "blah blah blah"

Last Comments: In spite of the stupid plot, I enjoyed this one. The action and the banter was fun,Drake Bell is starting to sound more like Spidey and the team dynamic has potential. Looks like a show I'll be sticking with.

I didn't have a problem with it--I mean, half-baked schemes and biting off more one can chew is kind-of a teenager thing to do, just with bigger stakes and a more surreal problem, and that's really what superhero stories are--adventure stories taken to their most extreme.

And yes, the jetpack gag got funnier every time. Luke Cage having to fight the most Lil' Doombot was also pretty funny. :D

I found the third episode to be an improvement over the first 2. Drake Bell's voice was better, them working as a team was better, almost all of the gags (there were still a few hit and misses) were better, especially the jetpack, and I thought the action was better. If this is an example of the kind of episodes we're gonna get week to week, I'm down for that.

His line "Oh Hush you" reminded my brother of CDB Spidey, I did feel it somewhat reminiscent

Hmm, I kinda hear it too. Not exactly like Barnes but pretty close. I forgot to mention that scene, I love that one too. "DOOM DEMANDS A BANANA SPLIT!"

Re: Ultimate Spider-Man Animated Series

Venom is my least favorite episode thus far, but I'm still satisfied
Why did Sam bad mouth Harry since he was with him and MJ in the previous episode? Sitting having fun?
Why would Spider-Man go away from Harry after he heard him forgiving Peter? He didn't hate Spider-Man

Geek catches:
Ock taking blood sample from Spider-Man, much like his first appearance and taking blood sample from Peter Parker
Electric webbing: Spider-Man 2: Enter Electro
Flash saying "Take the Nerd": Very Fred (ultimate Flash), not Eugene (original)
    Venom: Ultimate Carnage
Using electricity to defeat Venom, Ultimate Spider-Man destroying his black suit
Symbiote tying Iron Fist removing his clothes? So wrong
Fury as Spidey's inner voice: J. Jonah Fairy Godfather for Spider-Man (Skin Deep (Charlie Weiderman) if I recall right) I know it's from a Staczynski/Deodato issue
From Scimitar to Merciless, and I'm barely violent :p

Plot: Fairly simple plot. Doc Ock uses Spidey's blood for Norman Osborn's symbiote army, it escapes, tries to find Peter,
bonds with Flash(certainly not a coincidence, considering the current comics)
fights the Ultimate Friends,
bonds with Peter, names himself Venom,
gets electrocuted and
Harry Osborn finds a leftover bit of it. The credits list Harry as "Harry Osborn AKA Venom". Really don't like what that implies.

The Ultimate Friends: Couldn't think of anything to say about them.

Voice Acting: Still digging Drake Bell's voice here. No real problems with the acting.

Moments that Brought the Funny: Fury as Spidey's inner voice; I don't really like Nick Fury as a source of humor, but this one worked. Peter's Wheel of Fortune moment when he was trying to come up with an excuse.

Okay, that's a bit too much: Nothing really. The wackiness was toned down quite a bit in this episode. Well...maybe Iron Fist in briefs and the hole in the pants gag.

Last Comments: Decent episode, not really much to the story, but the action was good, and the few gags were fine.

Wonder if that would lead to interesting ways of him finding about Peter, and in a way it transfers that knowledge to Octavius, moving to Osborn sr.

Re: Ultimate Spider-Man Animated Series

Postby Thor » Fri Apr 20, 2012 11:35 pm

I'm still watching it but I can't say I really like it. I do like the animation style more than I did the previous show's but that's about it. I had issues with Spectacular Spuderman too but it grew on me because I thought the voice acting and plot line were pretty good. I dislike having teen versions of Luk Cage and Iron Fist and Nova annoys the hell out of me. As for Peter.... The last episode the 4th wall breaking and humor was toned down a bit which made it imo the best episode so far. Drakes voice is a bit too high pitched for my liking.

The thing I liked with a lot of the old shows is that it depicted Spiderman as a adult which was a bit later in the old comics and not as a high school kid. A show centered around teens can be good, I tend to like Young Justice now even though I had qualms at first. I can live with the teen angst as long as the show is well written but I don't do goofy well. I will continue to try to adapt to the new show but the news about the Avengers show has discouraged me a bit.

I felt like this was the weakest episode yet...

Adrian Pasdar as Iron Man seemed like ideal casting to me, but he's just... acceptable in the role. The whole Iron Spider story was kind of lame and I never really felt like the relationship between Pete and Tony carried any real weight.

That being said, the team aspect is coming along nicely.
