Has Bendis confirmed he's homaging or "imitating" Shattered Dimensions? Or if not, are you saying Bendis should have trashed his whole story because Shattered Dimensions happened to exist?

It would just be nice to see a different way to bridge the worlds than something we've already seen.

Exactly. While I'm not into Slotts ASM at all if I'm not mistaken he did to a issue where some guy Peter worked with made a time machine so why couldn't the same guy make a machine for universal-travel.

I also noticed the same premise as Shattered Dimensions, hence my lack of surprise. Oddly enough, Bendis claims that he was inspired by Pleasantville. I have no problem with doing a comic version of Shattered Dimensions, but I do agree that it's just recycling old material. I think that the lack of the 2099 and Noir universes, as well as the use of Miles instead of Ultimate Miles makes it different enough.

To be fair to Bendis on the Shattered Dimensions comparison, when the game came out, Bendis was already doing the Mysterio storyline that he's now said that the 616 Mysterio had a hand in. Lord knows it's not the first time that two different properties end up have stories with similar beats happening at the same time (see Brubaker's Captain America and Morrison's Batman, for example), though it's the only time I can think of where it happened to the same character.

Apparently both versions of Mysterio are the same person.

Yep, he mentioned that a week or so ago on CBR. That's why I mentioned that his Ultimate Mysterio story started at around the same time that Shattered Dimensions came out. I don't know if maybe, since he's a high-up guy in Marvel, he might have known more about that than most of us, but even still, it still seems different enough to not call it a complete rip-off.

I don't think it's a rip-off, and someone pointed out that the script for Shattered Dimensions was written by Dan Slott. I'm curious if he had planned to write a crossover at the time of the Mysterio story, since it sounds like he only recently came up with the idea for Spider-Men.

We finally have a cover for issue #4, as Axel Alonso speaks with Newsarama here.
