I am a big May´s fan and I will not buy this new ideoa of Arana being Spidr-Girl. It is the same as that new She-Hulk, just those great ideas. My opinion is just that Marvel wants to bury May and turning Arana into Spider-Girl is their way to get rid of her.

Tom DeFalco wrote:I know things seem pretty bleak these days. They're bleak for Spider-Girl fans and for the entire comic book industry. No title is selling as well as it should be selling. Even major titles are being relaunched every few years to bolster sales. Yeah, things are bleak.

On the other hand, we've had fun'n'games in the merry Mayday manner for 12 years and nearly 150 stories.

Spider-Girl always had a lot going against her. A female super-hero in an alternate universe that grew out of a controversial storyline. I mean SERIOUSLY?!?

Yet, she constantly defied expectations. Every time she was canceled in the past, it was because the sales/marketing department predicted that her sales would fall. They were wrong. She defied expectations! Her sales rose--thanks entirely to your efforts and your support!

That trick didn't work this time. Maybe it's because the market has changed. Maybe the switch to digital, followed by the switch to Spider-Man Family, followed by the switch to Web Of Spider-Man, followed by the switch to Spectacular Spider-Girl was just a little too confusing and eroded support. Who knows what happened? Bottom line--this time we didn't make the numbers! That's the biz, gang! Nothing lasts forever.

But look at what we did accomplish! The team and I had a great time and so did a lot of you. Not only did Spider-Girl become Marvel's longest running female super-hero, she also became Marvel's longest running alternate universe title. (A case could be made for What If, but that title featured a whole lot of different universes.)

If the time has finally come for Mayday to go away, so be it! (I believe she'll defy expectations and eventually return some day--but that's just me!)

Like I mentioned before, the team and I have been asked to do another limited series--featuring a different character--for Marvel. If that sells, we may be asked to do more stuff for Marvel.

If the time has finally come for us to leave Marvel, so be it! That's the biz!

No matter what the future brings, we've all had a great time with Spider-Girl and Marvel--and that's what we should remember!

Thanks for being there!
Tom D.

Give the book a definitive ending, and I can accept this.

Or would you still ignore it, because the character is more important than the creators for you? I really am curious. I think it would make for a very interesting situation for a lot of people.

I don't know if Quesada would consider DeFalco for a mainstream 616 project anymore. DeFalco's old school (one of the billion reasons I like him) but Quesada likes riskier "extreme" writers. Ones who can really deliver on 'edgy' stuff like *cough* non-rape and overplayed libidinous themes and who aren't too concerned about properly representing the main character and the supporting cast correctly. DeFalco's someone to whom those things mean a lot.

That being said, if it turns out Tom & Ron are doing an Araña mini... enh. I love the two of them but Araña bores me to tears and always has. In a universe where we've already had four Spider-Women (and in which two or three still exist) she's just redundant. At least when Araña was just being called Araña she was a little more original.

If Mr. Defalco and Mr. Frenz were doing it I still wouldn't buy it. I just have absolutely no interest in Arana. My money situation is really tight and I had to recently cut down my pull list anyway. If they offer the first issue for free on the Marvel app like they have been doing with a lot of books in their weekly releases I will most DEFINITELY check it out.

I had been wanting to read Old Man Logan and the first part of it was offered for free on the Marvel App. It was like Christmas in July.

To answer your question Kevin, no I wouldn't buy it because I don't think their heart would in it compare to Mayday. That is what was special about MC2 Spider-girl stories, their love the character came through with their writing. Was the writing dated, to some yes, but no more dated than Mark Millar's writing now. A lot is going to depend, like it always does with any book, is having the right person to helm this book. That is why I think Sean McKeever would be a good fit because he has shown that he can write a book with a female teenage superhero with that excellent Nomad Mini. Plus, he is going to be doing Young Allies and would help with keeping the sense of character to a single vision.

I agree with you. Arana isn´t Spider-Girl, I am sorry but I will not buy it in both senses, I hope which will never happen Marvel could end May´s life, not kill her but give her a propper closure and move on, I will not give my money to a character that isn´t May.

Nice. Get rid of the marriage and get rid of the Spider-Girl who reminds you of the marriage.

May sucked :p
"We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a saltshaker half-full of cocaine and a whole multicolored collection of uppers, downers, laughers, screamers . . . Also, a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether and two dozen amyls. Not that we needed all that for the trip, but once you get into a serious drug collection, the tendency is to push it as far as you can. The only thing that really worried me was the ether. There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge and I knew we'd get into that rotten stuff pretty soon . . ."

If that was the only reason, she'd have gone years ago.

Exactly. They've had three years to get rid of her because of the marriage and they hadn't till now so it's due to something else than the marriage.

At least they're giving May a send off, which is a lot more than other cancelled books get these days.
