Did you ever read Ghost Rider: Trail of Tears? It was a follow-up of sorts by the same creative team, set in the post-Civil-War era (the real one, not the bullshit Millar one). That's his best interior work, in my opinion -- that thing was gorgeous.

Im hoping the whole thing was worded wrong, and its Spider man using the Iron Man armor or something.
"We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a saltshaker half-full of cocaine and a whole multicolored collection of uppers, downers, laughers, screamers . . . Also, a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether and two dozen amyls. Not that we needed all that for the trip, but once you get into a serious drug collection, the tendency is to push it as far as you can. The only thing that really worried me was the ether. There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge and I knew we'd get into that rotten stuff pretty soon . . ."

I don't think I ever read the whole thing. But I seem to recall liking what I did read of it. And I agree. The artwork was gorgeous. [smilie=spidey_thumbs.gif]

I disagree entirely. Pat Mulligan got the Toxin symbiote right after it was born, allowing him to shape Toxin's sense of right and wrong, and his basic understanding of the world. The Venom symbiote was born on a different planet and had already lived long enough to form its own ideas before bonding with Peter. It's a very different situation.

Well, if I remember correctly, Planet of the Symbiotes established that the only reason the Venom symbiote was locked up in that glass tube on Battleworld was because the other symbiotes "thought it was insane." (Ie: it didn't want to completely control it's host and go on a killing spree, it just wanted to kick it with Peter and have some wacky adventures together!) I don't see any reason why Pete, who we've seen countless times in the past overcoming the imposible due to sheer force of will and strength of convictions being able to form a mutual partnership with the Venom symbiote, which technically wasn't evil until it bonded with Brock.

But still, I think the line of symbiote-themed characters should've ended with Carnage. (Seriously, Hybrid???) :P

Now I know you are not using Planet of the Shitty Stories as evidence :P

To each his own. I agree I could have done without every symbiote between Carnage and Toxin, but I love Toxin. His mini-series was brilliant, and there is so much potential for that character. If the only three symbiotes are Venom, Carnage, and Toxin, each of them has a unique place in the world and each of them can be valuable characters if written well (that last part if a huge caveat). A cop trying to "raise" an adolescent symbiote while being forced to depend on the same symbiote for his powers can be a really compelling character, full of humor, pathos, and drama. The well just needs to be tapped.

Well, while I agree it was a horrible mess of a story, chock full of expliotation 90's nonsense, hoodies and mullets, the fact that it was written by the "authority on symbiotes", David Michelinie himself, should make it admissible as evidence. Judge? :P
