What's been your favourite story arc and why? I have only read up to New Ways to Die but so far that would be a tie between Peter Parker Paparazzi and the Deity arc. I loved Paper Doll, Spider-Man has needed more female villains for years now and it was great to see such an original one introduced. Her motivations are perhaps a bit one note but this just makes all the more curious about where the character will be taken in the future. Marcos Martin's art was superb as well, despite this being all I have seen of his work he is far higher up my list of favourite Spider-Man artists than he really has any right to be.

I really loved the off-beat style of the Deity arc and Bachalo's artwork was wonderful and unlike any style ever seen before in ASM before. I also think that Bachalo captured Peter Parker's character in this arc better than any other writer for a long time.

Who's your favourite creative team on the book? Probably Slott and Martin. I have really enjoyed the work of Wells, McNiven and Bachalo as well though.

Was Shed really that bad? I haven't read it yet but from what I've heard it sounds like a very interesting idea and an admirable attempt to update a tired villain. I love Bachalo's art as well.

Do you like the fact that ASM is thrice monthly, or would you prefer the old set-up with ASM and 2 satellite titles? Doesn't really make a difference to me as I read ASM in UK reprints so it goes at the same pace regardless. I always thought that the very concept of satellite titles was odd though and only really worked when they were inherently stylistically different, a good example being when Paul Jenkins was on PPSM with JMS on ASM. Even then though I dislike the way that the bigger developments would always happen in ASM with events in PPSM being largely ignored, a good example being Jenkins' excellent 'A Death in the Family' arc.

Are you looking forward to OMIT, or not that bothered? I'm looking forward to getting answers but I think that Joe Q has waited far too long. Sadly I don't think he can really win with many fans as can be seen in the often hysterical reactions to OMIT despite very little actual information on the story being released.

Nice idea Farley!

Well, then post in the Delta House.

Gotta say I'm REALLY loving the Grim Hunt so far. Such a great story...probably some of the best Spidey comics since Slott and Romita Jr.'s # 600. Kelly is knocking it out of the park. Disappointed that Lark only did about 3 pages in # 636 but it's cool. I have been down on Max Fiumara lately but, honestly, his pencils in the Kraven/Kaine back up in # 636 were a vast improvement so maybe I am coming around to Mr. Fiumara. And, even though it's just two pages, Marcos Martin continues to prove he's just a DEFINITIVE artist in Spider-Man comics history. Beautiful, beautiful work.

Oops. When I said this I didn't notice which thread it was in. I just looked at the content of Black suit's post and assumed it was the Delta thread. Sorry Enigma.

As a new member I'd like to firmly ally myself with the zeta house!
I like post omd spiderman, I like 3 times a month and I dont mind spiderman ripping parts of peoples faces off!
Isn't it rich?
Are we a pair?
Me here at last on the ground
You in mid-air
Send in the clones.
Isn't it bliss?
Don't you approve?
One who keeps tearing around,
One who can't move.
Where are the clones?
Send in the clones
Just when I'd stopped opening doors,
Finally knowing the one that I wanted was yours
Making my entrance again with my usual flair
Sure of my lines
No one is there
Don't you love farce?
My fault I fear
I thought that you'd want what I want
Sorry, my dear
But where are the clones?
Quick, send in the clones
Don't bother, they're here
Isn't it rich?
Isn't it queer
Losing my timing this late
In my career?
And where are the clones?
There ought to be clones
Well, maybe next year

"Give me One Moment In Time, when I'm more than I thought I could be..." oh sorry 'bout that.
Hi all! I see there are a few new faces around here. Welcome to the fold I am your absentee leader (sort of -- there seems plenty of deputies around here to take care of y'all. Maybe someone can compile the newbies for me and I can give 'em a name (if you want to). I also see some traitorous wretches have decided to leave -- you scurvy knaves I'll have ye walk the internet plank!! :D
As for me I’ve just finished the Juggernaut storyline. So far The gauntlet ahs been hit and miss but I did especially like the Mysterio arc and the Rhino story was quite touching. Seem to remember the Sandman issues were decent enough.
AS for Uncle Rog’s story well it really took me back to those halcyon days of the 80s. Really good story Rog. I hope there’s plenty more of them in the Stern tank. Anyway, hope you’re all well and, for the most part, enjoying ASM. Shock, horror it’ still being published despite all the doom and gloom on t’other side. :)

Excelsior!

You been reading Spidey for long?
about 13 years
"We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a saltshaker half-full of cocaine and a whole multicolored collection of uppers, downers, laughers, screamers . . . Also, a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether and two dozen amyls. Not that we needed all that for the trip, but once you get into a serious drug collection, the tendency is to push it as far as you can. The only thing that really worried me was the ether. There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge and I knew we'd get into that rotten stuff pretty soon . . ."

Combustible Pumpkins wrote:I don't know yet, I just read both ASMs.

Dude, they just ruined the Lizard. This issue confirms, beyond any doubt, that Wells got a green light to write The Lizard however he wanted without any regard to the Lizard's past. Not only that, Billy's death was handled so thoughtlessly, I mean, he gets chomped on? Really? That is so freakin weird. There was no build up, no suspense leading up to that moment. Just Billy telling the monster he knew all along that this would happen. How lame. And how utterly disrespectful to the character and legacy of Dr. Curt Connors who Spidey use to go for help and advice. It would be one thing if Billy died at the hands of the Lizard, or something backfired or whatever. 633 was so anti-climatic and so utterly pointless that I just don't know what to think. Don't read this, if you haven't read it yet, but Nega-May
was overcome by Aunt May, just as Peter needed her to hold him... without any explanation, without knowing why Mr. Negative's taint was wearing. It just happened. What a total crock. We get Nega-May, a descent idea, but unfortunately didn't go anywhere interesting, and dragged on and on, until it was seemingly decided that it got in the way of May holding Peter when he really needed a hug.

And not only that,
The Lizard begins evolving, feeling remorse from... picture in monkey bwain's head?
!?!? Really? The whole monkey brain vs. reptile brain thing was really, to say the least, heavy-handed and, I dare say, amateurish.

I'm really tired and I know I'm ranting, so I'm going to bed. Hopefully what I wrote here will make sense in the morning.

Ruining the Lizard? Well they can always “unruin” him ay another stage, right? Hardly the grounds for jumping ship. Let's put it this way, Alan Moore was once asked what he thought of Hollywood ruining his work. he said his books were still on the shelves and they could never be ruined.
Same for the Lizard – you’ve 40 years of Lizard stories sitting on your shelves. He’s not ruined. You might like his current incarnation but as we all know someone else will take him on in a few years and either return him to his roots or do something new with him.
Same for people who say that Spidey’s been ruined over the last few years. Well there’s decades of material there that you like so he can never be truly ruined.
BeanLynch was right Spider-man is not really a continuous story as such -- it’s about eras. You like some eras others you don’t.
