This makes me chuckle. If only I'd actually seen this movie.

This thread is funny. I'm about an inch away from being eligible for membership, because while I definately don't like the current direction, I'm still buying ASM because... Hell, I don't even have a rationalization any more. The only thing that's keeping me going is habit. I've been reading Spider-Man for almost ten years, and the character has always been a big part of my life. But these stories are going nowhere. Nothing is happening, and the only guiding vision at play here is the attempt to manufacture the formula of a past era of Spider-Man whose time has passed. I'm going to give the JRJR arc a chance, but if it isn't blowing me away by the first few issues, I don't think I can justify continuing to spend money on this thing. There are more excellent comics than I can afford to buy, and this is keeping me from getting three of them. And when I say New Ways To Die has to blow me away, I mean it has to be at least as good as the kind of stories that were told toward the end of the old status quo that were sacrificed to bring on BND. I'm talking about stuff like the Sensational Annual. If the old continuity was constraining writers from telling the best possible stories, then it shouldn't take over twenty issues to produce something half as good as the one issue that REQUIRED Spider-Man to be married to tell. If you're going to restrict those kinds of stories from being told, then you had better pull out something even better to justify the change. ASM only has a few more chances to do that.

Would that mean handing in your reviewer's badge, Chris?

Diablo. I like it. Hence, with the newly acquired powers of my fraternity name's namesake, I grant Spidey his marriage back! [smilie=spidey_lol.gif]

Chris, I feel your pain. I look at the solicits and I feel withdrawals. Not to slight people with drug addictions, but it's just the closest analogy I can make as I have been collecting Amazing non stop since 325 and reading Marvel Tales since I was 3 or 4. It feels very...odd not having read any new Spidey since, what, January? Fortunately, my Marvel embargo only excludes the books, not the AWESOME new cartoon or the promising looking video game.

If I did drop ASM, then I would of course have to stop reviewing it. That doesn't mean I wouldn't be open to review something else for the site.
