Dang, Renew Your Vows received a notable boost in sales. I'm not sure what the reason behind that is, but I'm certainly not complaining.

Amazing and Spectacular have pretty much stayed in the same range, which isn't that surprising considering the poor word of mouth those books are receiving.

And despite Marvel Legacy selling nearly 300k copies, certain reports indicate that it hasn't made a difference.

Yeah, I'm kind of wondering the reason for that myself, given that there was no real reason for the titles to be boosted in August.

And I'm including Renew Your Vows in that bump. I'm happy to see it go up, but I do wonder what the reason for it was.

Although it does show that Renew Your Vows has consistently sold at least more than half the numbers that ASM is putting out. Meaning that it's not a "niche" book.

Sales still appear to be pretty dismal for Marvel across the board, but I'm glad to see that RYV is finally out of the 20k range (for however long that lasts).

It might be because the Normie stuff is finally bearing fruit.

I predict there will be a spike for #13 because of the time jump, but after that I feel like it'll start going back to under 30k and lower. We'll see.

Here's an interesting thread showcasing a sales breakdown between DC and Marvel.

[Image

It appears to indicate that DC ongoings seem to do better then Marvel's and that DC more closely matches Marvel in sales when comparing their Superhero lines.

Pretty amazing that secondary DC titles like Titans, Flash & Detective Comics are nearly selling at the same level as Marvel's marquee characters like Spider-Man and the X-Men.

I'm happy for DC overall--they put the work into the books, and it's paid off.

It's amazing how just reassuring their custumer base can make miracles in terms of sales. Something that Marvel is not willing to do!

I'm getting kind of worried about those Venom sales. Once Venom Inc. is done, Costa should do something big, like bring back the Life Foundation symbiotes, or maybe even have a Carnage story (Bunn said that there were big plans for Carnage in the making). I also think it's high time that he meets Miles and gets re-acquainted with Ben.

Seeing these figures today it makes me wonder...

The justification I've seen for Batman doing so well is that "He's Batman." And, yeah, that has something to do with it. But when ASM does well, the justification is "Oh, it's entirely because of Slott."

But here's the thing- shouldn't that be reversed? I mean, looking at this ranking, yeah, ASM is there. But so is Batman. But ASM is there likely due to the Legacy marketing push. And only one issue of ASM is there, whereas both issues of Batman are in the top 10, showing that the numbers for ASM are likely artificially inflated. I mean, both ASM and Batman were released bi-monthly in October. But ASM only has one of it's issues in the top 10- one that has a special lenticular cover that required some hoops to be jumped through in order to receive it- while Batman has both, with no special incentive to get them. Not to mention both issues of Batman will likely stay in the top 10, while next month ASM will likely drop out again.

Yet whenever I see people try to argue these statistics, we always seem to get those that say that the reason Batman is doing so well is because "It's Batman." As if Batman alone is the reason the title is selling so high, and there is no other factor involved. Not fan interest. Not quality storytelling. It's just because he's Batman and that's it. And, don't get me wrong, the character does have a large fanbase. But so does Spider-Man, and he's not reaching those same numbers with any sort of consistency.

And with Spider-Man, again any and all success is just attributed to Slott. Slott is the reason the book is "The best selling superhero title." Slott is the reason the book is "So Successful." Slott is the reason the book sells in the mid 50's. And never is Spider-Man's own inherent popularity a considered factor.

So, given the discrepancy between the series, shouldn't it be the reverse? That the reason that Batman is doing so well is both because "It's Batman" but also due to the efforts of Tom King, the quality storytelling, the smart risks taken with the series that are captivating fans attention, and the proper management of his franchise? And with Spider-Man, shouldn't we attribute the fact that the book is only selling in the mid-50's at most time is due to the fact that it is Spider-Man, and there is always going to be some sort of base interest for this character, regardless of the story quality? Because if ASM is really so amazing and so popular, I don't see any reason why it shouldn't be selling just as much at Batman does on a regular basis, instead of every once in a while due to the efforts of marketing to artificially boost the numbers.

Instead we continue to get the justification that Batman is super successful because of arbitrary conditions that can't be defined or replicated, but ASM is "Successful" solely due to the efforts of Slott and Slott alone, and that just really seems backwards to me.

Seems that Capn Cummings got a hold of Disneys overall 4th quarter earnings for the year.

Proof that Marvel is losing money AND so is Disney

As I said, the dip from ASM #789 to #791 shows that the boost for the first issue of Legacy was entirely due to inflated demand based on that cover. If there was real interest for what Marvel is doing, both issues of ASM would rank the same, or close to the same, due to retailers ordering more.
