New reader question

Postby Kryptonman » Mon Jun 29, 2009 9:46 pm

Heya Kevin, just started your seris and it's great! I only stuck around for about 20 issues after omd and enjoyed the first issue more than all of the in-continuity ones. Quick question though: When did Thor ever owe Spider-Man a favor? And how did MJ know where he was? Death Rider is dope. End of story. So because Aunt May died without Peter or MJ going against the deal with Mephisto does that mean Peter has his soul back? Thanks dude. Cant wait to fully catch up!

Thanks man! I hope everybody can enjoy this series, but I particularly wanted to offer up some new Spidey stories for the people put off by Brand New Day. Glad to have you onboard, and I hope I can provide you with a decent Spidey fix until the MU continuity is repaired!

Quick question though: When did Thor ever owe Spider-Man a favor? And how did MJ know where he was?

It was actually Loki that owed Spidey a favor, from back in the JMS/Avery two parter where Spider-Man saved Loki's daughter's life. And MJ knew where to go because, while I don't know that it was explicitly stated within the Thor series, I would assume that an event as big as Asgard appearing over Oklahoma would be widely publicized in the news.

Death Rider is dope. End of story.

Haha, awesome. Glad ya dug him! I kind of went against my usual type and channeled my inner-Mark Millar on that one. "Take a pre-established concept and make it bigger and more badass!" At least, that's what I assume Millar says every time he conceives a new idea

So because Aunt May died without Peter or MJ going against the deal with Mephisto does that mean Peter has his soul back?

While I'll agree the current character in the comics is fairly bland and soulless, Mephisto said a part of his soul would cry out in agony, so he definitely retained his soul from the deal. As to the specifics of things getting on track here, I assumed re-experiencing the original incident that incited him to make the deal would trigger a brief burst in his memory. Now, if MJ hadn't been around, he would have just known he felt weird for a minute and moved on. But since MJ was there with all the knowledge of what happened, Mephisto's whole little world started crumbling down. You'll find out more about Aunt May being gunned down and why that happened in later issues (the just-published issue 6 to be exact). It's a major touchstone for the current "Spider-Man Black" story, actually.

Thanks dude. Cant wait to fully catch up!

Thank you, sir! Gaining new readers is always exciting for me, so I really appreciate you letting me know you're into it! I look forward to hearing your thoughts on later issues!

There are only 7 pages complete so far, as it was done to be a pitch to Image and Dark Horse. Since it's been rejected by both, I just decided to go ahead and share those 7 pages with you guys. The best place to read them is in the first post on this thread right here on the Crawl Space:

"The ground quakes and the heavens cry tears of blood when Kevin gives out his brand of Crawlspace justice. Babies cry, grown men avert their eyes, women pass out and even the wind gives pause. Kevin’s eyes glow and lightning crackles around them. It’s pretty epic and definitely not for the timid." - Michael Bailey
