So what happened to the comic guys? I miss reading the new adventures of Crawl Space Spidey (and Ben Reilly as of the last issue)

As it has now been almost two years since the release of the last issue, I think it's time for me to bite the bullet and admit that the Annual isn't coming. I'm not saying I will never continue Spider-Man: Crawl Space. I'd still really love to get back to it at some point, as I had a lot more story I wanted to tell and still do. But at this point, if I do get back to it, it's going to take some retooling. After 2 years, there are certain stories that just don't sound as strong to me, and I would want to get to the ones that excite me quicker (I think it was always folly to plan one of my most anticipated stories for year 3 - if you're jonesing for something, write the damn thing!). Point being, what was going to be the Annual would not be the next part of my plan if I picked the series back up today, so I'm officially "cancelling" it (besides, who would I be fooling with the word "Annual" after two years anyway?). But, the fantastic Crawl Space artists put in a lot of work a long time ago to come up with 4 beautiful covers for the four stories of the proposed Annual, and I don't want to let those go to waste. So here, for your viewing pleasure and some well-deserved and long overdue accolades for the artists, I present those covers with brief synopses of the stories they were to go with.

Image

"Birth of the Goblin King" cover by Dion Hamill with logo assists from bdog

The story of Harry Osborn's rise from the grave and his association with Morbius the Living Vampire. Harry's time away is detailed along with the origins of his plans, as Morbius begins some plots of his own - or does he?

Image

Back-Up story #1 cover by Hambone and bdog (never came up with a title I liked for this story)

The Punisher and Spider-Man clash when the Punisher murders a Brand New Day villain (hint: see his mini-series for his origin), leading to the Punisher agreeing to assist Spider-Man in finding Aunt May's killer (as seen in Spider-Man Black).

Image

"The Curse of Vin Gonzales" cover by Enigma_2099 and bdog

Catch up with the story of Vin Gonzales since his battle with Spider-Man as the Death Rider in Crawl Space #1, and by the end of the story his role in the future is set in motion. Also, a surprising appearance in hell by Norman Osborn leads back to the final pages of Crawl Space #12.

Image

"The Death of Janine Godbe" cover by Hambone and bdog

After Ben Reilly's return, he visits his former girlfriend Janine Godbe, aka Elizabeth Tyne, in prison every day, but he finds himself talking to a brick wall. Ben died shortly after he convinced her to go to prison, promising he'd be with her the whole time, and now that he's back she is less than forgiving. But can she live without him?

Hey Kevin,

If you ever get back to writing this again, let me know I'd be happy to break out the old tablet and work on covers again. Truth be told I miss my "semi" professional gig.

I really should go back and reread so I can be fresh with the previous story in my mind. When is this starting to come out so I know how to pace myself?

Is Norman having a Parker clone body something that's already happened? If so then I REALLY might need to refresh my memory, too.

Sounds like something Red Skull would do. There aren't that many degrees of separation between Red Skull and Norman in this universe, come to think of it.

I believe that happened in the last issue and a Spider-Girl showed up with him too.

Cool cover with Kaine! Did Enigma do it?

Interesting. Nice to see that secrets shared at NYCC may yet come to pass... :D [smilie=spidey_clap.gif] [smilie=spidey_thumbs.gif]

Really great to see some enthusiasm here, guys! After I left you hanging for 2 years, I really can't tell you how much I appreciate it!

Yep!

I'd look for it by the end of the month if not sooner.

I'd recommend rereading the last two pages of #11 followed by #12. More will be revealed in this story, though.

David "Hambone" Crim, regular CS cover artist since #9, did that awesome cover. Did it two years ago, in fact (along with the #14 cover) and I'm thrilled to finally be able to show it! Bdog's already done some great colors for it that I can't wait to show off, too!

I don't remember what I told you at NYCC, but I've retooled my ideas so much since then that you may or very well may not see whatever you think you know

Well it was the only new good Spidey I have read in over four years.

I remember she was all beat up and Morbius was going to heal her. Maybe he mind controls her now or she just feels loyalty...

Awesome!!! I thought you meant well into December with the winter label.

I should have known it was him. I look foward to Bdog's colors! You are lucky to work with some great artists.

Are we ever getting the teased "Annual" stories? I was interested in those. You'll have to call it a Giant Sized special or something because Annual would definitely be a misnomer at this point.
