Just wondering what MG thinks about Spidey 2099 and if you're ever going to write about it perhaps? I really enjoyed the series.

I've always wanted to do a Spidey 2099 article as part of the Alternate Spidey series. It had its moments, but since it was done largely by Peter David, it was worthwhile. But it'll have to take a spot in line.

Well, nice to know that it's at least bouncing around in your head. It's certainly the best "Alternate Reality" Spidey series, IMO.

Yeah I'm hoping he'll write about Spidey in 2099

I agree with you about the artwork. As far as the stories, I enjoyed them more in the beginning as the layers started to be revealed about this future society and how it operated, but lost interest after about a year. I also tried out the Doom 2099 and Punisher 2099 when they first started, but lost interest after the origin stories were over. However, years later at a comic sale I was able to complete the rest of the Spider-Man 2099 run for about $5, so I purchased them all yet haven't read them.

I actually thought Doom 2099 was the best of all of them.

BTW--if you're interested, Peter David recently finished up his Spidey 2099/Thanatos storyline in the last CAPTAIN MARVEL series.

I liked Doom 2099 the best as well - but after the first couple of story arcs it was clear that we weren't really going to find out just WHO he was, if he was the real Doctor Doom that we know, Kristoff, or some other doppelganger because in the first issue his mask was taken off by whatsisname new ruler of Latveria and it was the face of a relatively young man with no scars. And I really hate being strung along, so I dropped the title.

i honestly didnt care for any of them, much like you j.r i dropped after the first few story arcs. Now i dunno about you, but i really dont think peter david does very good writing. i may be in the minority, but outside of some of his early mr fixit hulk stuff, i cant recall anything thats been memorable (in a good way) ned leeds hobgoblin, spidey 2099, and friendly neighborhood spidey, all junk if you ask me. I mean reall, hobby 2011? future uncle ben? what the crap? andn thats just in spiderman, let alone other marvel titles and DC (fallen angel supergirl anyone?) all the time travel stories and sci fi stuff isnt spider-man. What does everyone else think?

First Steven, I think PAD is great, and I love FNSM, and am sad to see him go.

Regarding Spidey 2099, overall I liked the series. I recentely filled in my holes and read the whole thing. It starts out very strong, dips in the middle, and I think it kicks back up again right around Venom 2099, and was strong until the end. Was it the best Spidey ever? No. Was it the best Spidey in the 90s? You could make the argument... at least from '94 on, IMO.

I've only read other 2099 here and there. If they ever gave Spidey 2099 his own title again, I'd definitely pick it up.

I've never read 2099. I might like it because I have been known to enjoy a Peter David book here and there, like X-Factor. But I can't stand FNSM.

You all didn't like the art in Spidey 2099? Rick Leonardi art on it was amazing. I loved every issue. And hated when he left the art. Don't recall right now what issue it was. But I loved it, and still do.

Ok just flipped thru the info on SpiderFan.org for Spider-Man 2099, and looks like Rick's art was only pretty much thru issue 25...thought it was longer than that. Plus Al Williamson's inks over Ricks pencils were great. I'd love to see them back on a spidey title.

Talk amongst yourselves :)
