Re: Mary Jane Appreciation Thread

zdarsky I have some MJ story ideas planned! Hopefully I'll be able to get to them! Editorial Mandate is written all over that response. Blessing in disguise after his deplorable Free COmic book day issue and abominable Rebecca London crap. I'd rather Zdarksy just never touch Peter's love life

Re: Why Rebooting is bad and why continuity actually matters

It’s not a 1:1 thing though. Nobody hated the mindwipe for merely existing but hated the PROBLEMS it opened up because of how clumsily it was done and hated that it was needed because the unmasking was so ill conceived. A lot of Marvel's current problems with readers might stem out of their lazy st...

Re: What's in Store for Spider-Man in Fall /Winter 2017/2018?

-Sony will be next for Disney to acquire and not just for Spider-Man, they’d get Ghostbusters and I think James Bond right? From what I recall Bond is not owned by Sony. They are just the current license owners. I'm not a big Bond fan, but I do believe that is the case. -I expect the villains of fu...

Re: What's in Store for Spider-Man in Fall /Winter 2017/2018?

The sad thing about this Disney/FOX deal is that people are now retconning history much like they did with the Raimi movies to pretend that the X-Men movies were unsuccessful/always bad when...they really weren't that. There was TWO bad movies and one movie people labelled bad when it was at worst a...

Re: What's in Store for Spider-Man in Fall /Winter 2017/2018?

Reflections on Disney buying 20th Century FOX -I’m very happy for the Fantastic Four to hopefully no longer get shafted in the comics and equally hopefully be FINALLY done right on film. Disney’s main brand as family entertainment would actually work very well with the FF -I am 100% certain within f...

Re: Why Rebooting is bad and why continuity actually matters

Agreed on Black Cat, but I don't know that rebooting so Parker Industries was some small startup wouldn't stick out like a bad sore thumb. It's just too over-the-top, even for the state of ASM these days. It's Peter's worldwide fame as a tech mogul that needs to be somehow wiped away. I assume they...

Re: What's in Store for Spider-Man in Fall /Winter 2017/2018?

Marvel publishing really needs to just be purged at this point.

Brevoort, Quesda, Slott, Wacker, Pearlmutter, probably Dan Buckley, Spencer, Remender, Lowe, Loeb, possibly Jordan D. White.

All of them have on some level proven toxic

Re: What's in Store for Spider-Man in Fall /Winter 2017/2018?

Let's get ready for the very F***ing worse that Dan Slott has to offer to the franchise, because oh boy things are not looking good! Slott? He's just the beginning of this future mess. He knows he's leaving, he knows that and he's going to go out with a bang which will either be positive or negativ...

Re: Axel Alonso Replaced.

And I'm not gonna start dancing in the streets singing his praise, so let's agree to disagree and move on. I'm not dancing in the street singing his praises either. But I think there can be at least a middle ground between "Quesada is an untouchable genius" and "He is the worst monster to ever work...

Re: Axel Alonso Replaced.

Joey Q @ Marvel PROS: Marvel Knights line Bringing JMS aboard Joey Q @ Marvel NEUTRAL Civil War (I enjoyed it for what it is, but more for McNiven's art than the story which is both good and bad) Joey Q @ Marvel NEGATIVES: General attitude toward fandom OMD OMIT The last two are huge because they b...

Re: Why Rebooting is bad and why continuity actually matters

This is the core of why reboots do not work in the long term. When you reboot a character you change their past and frequently that means changing who they are. Almost always a character’s origin is revised in some fashion or the emphasis for the characters changed. When Superman was rebooted in th...

Re: Why Rebooting is bad and why continuity actually matters

I don't think Spider-Man needs rebooting. As much as I dislike Slott's run and what he has done to the series, I don't think it's so damaged that it necessitates a reboot. Just a bit of reworking and retconning after the fact. Retcon Black Cat's heel turn as her being manipulated by an outside forc...

Re: Why Rebooting is bad and why continuity actually matters

Which just goes down the rabbit hole of trying to create this explanation to try and correct a "Problem" that doesn't really require a lot of work. We don't have to have a memory rewrite to "Correct" people's memories. Just as we didn't need a confusing retcon as to why Peter is the suddenly a clon...

Re: Why Rebooting is bad and why continuity actually matters

It's still trying to spend a lot of time trying to say a story happened differently or memories were altered, for no other reason than a specific dislike of a previous status quo. Parker Industries can be dealt with in a hand wave. It doesn't require a massive memory wipe to say "It happened but no...

Re: Why Rebooting is bad and why continuity actually matters

You know why this explanation doesn't work for me? Because that's basically what they've been "telling" us ever since OMD. We've even had figurative F yous thrown our face by writers and editors on the book and in the company at times too, so you'll have to excuse me as my sympathy for anyone that ...
