Re: Marvel Netflix Thread (Daredevil, etc.)

I finished the series tonight, and I very much enjoyed it. It's been said before but Luke Cage is not my favorite black hero from comics. He doesn't largely appeal to me, and I really cannot relate to him. Being much older now than when my dad tried to get me into him, I appreciate him as a characte...

Re: When do you think Harry Osborn began doing drugs?

In ASM #96 Peter comments on Harry using certain medicines to regulate his sleeping patterns, keep him up and other stuff. We see him first starting hard drugs like LSD in that issue. I don't believe there's any implication that his addiction began earlier than that, unless you want to use the over...

Re: Diversity in Spider-Man

but I am of the camp that diversity for diversity sake does not add much. Give me good, compelling characters that tell an interesting story that stays away from stereotypes or tropes is always welcome. I hate that. "Diversity for diversity's sake", why is that always framed as a negative? When has...

Re: Marvel Comics have become way too politicized & one-side

What I observe is that, I think , compared to the past, that the comics have become a lot more politically partisan and amoral. Stan Lee's policy was to attempt to steer straight down the middle, but that looks to have been abandoned long ago. He did defy the comics code, but that was in favor of a...

Re: Funny Crawl Space Moments

I gotta say, there was a several month spat of episodes where we were covering Superior when I was just loving being on the show. It was a good run of issues in terms of quality, but it also provided terrific material for the podcast. Many of the recent episodes you've been listening to hornacek are...

Re: Do certain writers "get" Peter Parker over others?

It's not a question that lends itself to an objective answer. Either you like, agree or appreciate with a writer's take or you don't. I love Jim Starlin's Batman. He has a terrific voice for Bruce Wayne, but there's often times during his run where he straight-up writes him in conflict to how I see ...

Re: Podcast# 383-Spider-Man And Race What did you think?

Also, to offer a counterpoint to Don’s argument about how Miles being in 616 is any different to Miguel, Don I think you are presuming it was a valid ad acceptable thing for Miguel to be in the 616 in the first place when no it really wasn’t. Note how of the 12 issues of Miguel’s ongoing literally ...

Re: Podcast# 383-Spider-Man And Race What did you think?

And finally (before I edit in more thoughts I am sure) I must confess to disagreeing with Don and others who feel it would be fine to not have Peter Parker in the movies. I honestly don't think I said that. I personally wanted the MCU to adapt Peter before Miles, although if they did do Miles first...

Only a contrarian moron would say that. I know people took issue with his portrayal in the first ASM, but to compare it to one of the classic worst comic movies of all time exposes a disingenuous agenda.

Re: Spider-Girl's Ron Frenz: "Dan Slott is not Roger Stern."

How these guys snagged Frenz's apparently extensive thoughts on this relatively quickly is impressive. I think the complaint about the robot leg is a bit of a quibble, but it does speak to a larger lack of interest in getting certain details right. I'd be more on the banal writing and brain-dead his...

Re: JMS' Mary Jane

People tend to view the JMS era unfavorably, blaming him for the Spider-Totem which led to The Other, the unmasking, OMD and all that. He's still my favorite Spider-Man writer. His voice for Peter, Aunt May and Mary Jane is up there with the best of them.

Re: Gwen Stacy in the Refrigerator

Actually now that I think about Jean DeWollff was totally fridged, as were Marla, Kafka, Sable and even MJ back in the early 2000s. Would Aunt May in ASM #400 count though? Those examples are absolutely cases of Women in Refrigerators, although I would not count Aunt May. Her death came from natura...
