Spider-Man/Doctor Octopus: Out Of Reach: Part Three
Script: Colin Mitchell
Pencils: Keron Grant
Inks: Rob Stull
Story: We carry on from last issue where Brigham returned to doc Ock and why? Because it made him feel alive, nuff sed! Err anyway Brigham and Ock rip off a bank after a quick scuffle with spidey (repetition) and then return to their seedy waterfront hideout, where Brigham bad mouths docs arms, and one thing leads to another and Brigham offers to give him a bit of a tune up, only during the process doc decides he’s prefect as he is and halts the procedure just as Spiderman barges in to save the day only to be KO’d by another of Brigham’s machines. On return home Brigham learns that the country believes him to be a brainwashed slave of doc Ock’s rather than the true inventor of the vault opening gadget. Infuriated by this he storms off to a TV station and declares himself more dangerous than a bomb.
The Good: woooh Brigham has a big case of the crazy and that’s no joke, have we seen the origins of a new spidey villain, I really hope so because if that’s the case this miniseries is really something quite special. It’s about time spidey had a new decent rogue that isn’t a mystically imbued thingamajig.
The Bad: Today I write this review from under a pile of corn, yes you heard me right corn from this corny mini-series’ dialogue. One thing that puzzles me about this series, which isn’t Brigham’s bizarre feelings for doc Ock, is why “Out Of Reach” sure for the first issue it made some sense because the vaults were out of reach, but now what? It doesn’t really have any relevance which is weird. Also why does peter where swimming trunks in a bath? So may questions.
Rating: So many questions? 3.5 webheads out of 5

Spider-Man/Doctor Octopus: Out Of Reach: Part Two
Script: Colin Mitchell
Pencils: Keron Grant
Inks: Rob Stull
Story: Continuing on this roller coaster movie tie-in we see Brigham desperately trying to win the respect of doc Ock his kidnapper by creating inventions that will allow him to defeat spider-man and open the special vault. More conflict between spidey and Ock ensues in which Brigham is trapped and forced to use his latest invention to escape only to run back into the arms of doc Ock who hands him over to Spiderman who in turn returns him to his folks only for Brigham to run off once more to his new friend doc Ock
The Good: Who would have thought Brigham would side with doc Ock? Not me and I’m guessing not many of the kids who this book is obvious aimed at. The art is still it’s pretty slick self and this time round we get yet another cool looking cover with a slightly different looking doc Ock.
The Bad: The dialogue continues to be a bit sketchy and unrealistic in places especially form Brigham who just sounds so false all the time, however it’s still a pretty fun book despite the lack of any real characterisation from Brigham, I mean why did he side with doc?
Rating: still pretty slick. 4 webheads out of 5

Spider-Man/Doctor Octopus: Out Of Reach: Part One
Script: Colin Mitchell
Pencils: Keron Grant
Inks: A whole army
Story: And here we have the movie tie in comic aimed at the kids. This issue we see doc Ock attempting to rob only to be thwarted by the combined efforts of Spiderman and an impenetrable vault created by the boy genius Brigham Fontaine. We see a fair few scuffles between spidey and doc Ock and none more so than when the doc crashes Brigham’s press conference and kidnaps the child protégée
The Good: For kids I think this would be a very good issue, the art is nice and all the basic plot elements of Spiderman are there. For adults this comics doesn’t really have that much so they would be better suited to the grittier tones of “negative exposure”. It’s also good to see a pretty cool cover being put on this movie tie-in which can even rival some of the monthly books, and don’t even get me started on how much the title kicks ass.
The Bad: The dialogue isn’t exactly award winning, but I guess it gets the job done.
Rating: One for the kids. 4 webheads out of 5
